Von Miller is eligible to return to Bills this week

If the Buffalo Bills so chose, Von Miller could be back in the fold this week.

With the team’s 48-20 win over the Miami Dolphins (3-1) behind them, the Bills (3-1) have now played four games.

Miller, still on the PUP list for the ACL injury he sustained during the 2022 season, is now eligible to return to the team.

Per NFL rules, a player must stay on the PUP or injured reserve designation for a minimum of four weeks when placed there.

Miller can be activated to return to practice any day this week, but that does not mean he will play in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-2) even if he is. That will require a second injury designation from the Bills.

After designating Miller to return from the PUP list, Buffalo then has 21 days to activate him to the 53-man roster. If the team does not, the Bills must return Miller to injury designation and he’s required to stay their for the remainder of the 2023 season.

In addition to Miller, the same rules apply to rookie receiver Justin Shorter (hamstring) and linebacker Baylon Spector (hamstring). Both were placed on injured reserve after roster cuts.

It’s unclear if any of the three will return to practice any time soon. The expectation could be that the Bills are mum on the situation as Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott often likes to keep his cards close to the chest in these types of scenarios.
