Vikings seek first win in Miami since 1976
When the Minnesota Vikings head down to Miami to take on the Dolphins, they will be trying to do something they haven’t done since the Bud Grant era: Win a football game in Miami.
The Vikings have played the Dolphins 13 times in their history, including Super Bowl VIII, where the Vikings lost to Don Shula’s Dolphins 24-7 to cap the 1973 season.
The next game that the two franchises played against each other was the Vikings’ only win in their five trips to Miami, a 29-7 victory in 1976. Their last trip to Miami was an utter disaster. Jeff Locke’s punt was blocked for a safety at the end of the game to give the Dolphins a 37-35 victory.
Overall, the Vikings sit at 5-8 against the Dolphins all time but they won their last meeting, a 41-17 victory in 2018 that saw Kevin Stefanski take over play-calling duties from John DeFilippo. Dalvin Cook had a tremendous day for the Vikings, running for 136 yards and two touchdowns with a 7.16-yard average. He will have a lot of fans in the stands as he returns to play in his hometown for the first time as a professional.
