Vikings interview Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn for head coaching job

Jan. 19—The Vikings on Wednesday interviewed Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator and former NFL head coach Dan Quinn for their opening to replace Mike Zimmer.

Quinn became the second candidate to interview since Zimmer was fired Jan. 10 as head coach. The Vikings, who are conducting initial interviews virtually, spoke to Green Bay offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on Sunday.

The Vikings, who also fired general manager Rick Spielman on Jan. 10, have conducted six virtual interviews so far in the search for his replacement.

Quinn was head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020, finishing with a 43-42 record before joining the Cowboys in 2021. He took the Falcons to Super Bowl LI after the 2016 season, losing 34-28 in overtime to New England.

Quinn is the first former head coach the Vikings have interviewed and one of two they so far have requested for an interview. They put in a request Tuesday for Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11 and Quinn's replacement as interim coach of the Falcons for the final 11 games of 2020.
