Viera's Addison Elwell leads 2023 All-Space Coast Girls Cross Country

Addison Elwell was the fastest Brevard County high school cross country girls runner down the stretch in 2023.
The Viera High sophomore won three meets in a row individually from the middle of October at the Cape Coast Conference meet through her regional meet on Nov. 11. Elwell is the FLORIDA TODAY Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year.
She won by 19 seconds at Wickham Park on Oct. 19 to claim the CCC individual girls championship. That morning, she posted her best 5,000-meter of the season, 18:04.5.
The boys: Viera runner leads All-Space Coast for 2023
Elwell went on to win the District 5-4A meet hosted by Osceola High in Kissimmee, 51 seconds faster than the rest of the field. In Region 3-4A, she crossed the finish line 29 seconds before her closest competitor at Kissimmee's Austin Tindall Park.
Elwell's 18:49.3 placed her sixth in Class 4A at Tallahassee's Apalachee Park for the FHSAA state meet, Brevard's best girls time of the day.

Madison Carr, Junior, Astronaut
Carr placed in the top four from conference through her regional. She was the District 4-2A runner-up in 18:50.2. Third at Cape Coast Conference with a time of 18:31.1.
Addison Elwell, Sophomore, Viera
Elwell won Cape Coast Conference, District 5-4A and Region 3-4A titles. She won the CCC at Wickham Park in 18:04.5, nearly 19 seconds ahead of the runner-up. She placed sixth in Class 4A at the FHSAA state meet.
Elliana Falls, Eighth-grader, West Shore
Falls finished fourth at the District 4-2A meet with a season-best time of 19:24.2. She placed fifth in Region 2-2A and 28th at the FHSAA Class 2A state level.
Kiera Merrick, Sophomore, Satellite
Merrick ran 18:54.4 for fifth place at the Cape Coast Conference meet. She placed fourth in District 7-3A, 10th in Region 4-3A and 30th in the state 3A meet.
Ava Quattrocchi, Senior, Rockledge
Quattrocchi's season best of 18:38.3 came in a fourth-place finish at the Cape Coast Conference meet. She placed third in District 7-3A and 20th in Class 3A at the FHSAA state meet.
Braelyn Wahy, Senior, Satellite
Wahy ran seventh at the Cape Coast Conference with a time of 19:31.0. She placed fifth in District 7-3A, and her time of 19:40.5 was 25th at the FHSAA Class 3A state meet.
Brooke Yates, Senior, Merritt Island
Yates won the District 7-3A individual championship with a time of 18:53.1. She placed second at the CCC meet in 18:23.3. Sixth in Region 4-3A and 16th at FHSAA state 3A.
