Viera boys, girls soccer teams head to state semifinals after back-to-back wins Wednesday
The Viera High school girls soccer team has won its way into the state semifinal round of the FHSAA Class 6A playoffs after knocking off Oviedo on Wednesday 2-1.
The boys joined them just a few hours later with a 1-0 defeat of New Smyrna Beach, also in 6A.

The Hawks were the top seed in Region 2-6A and improved to 16-1-1 with the win over Oviedo.
Their game was scoreless through the first half, but the Hawks broke through shortly after that.
Gianna Buysse scored two goals for Viera. Brienna McAin assisted on one. Goal keeper Kendall Mix was credited with 13 saves.
The Lions finished their season 14-2-3.
Viera will play Wednesday in DeLand in a state semifinal against East Lake (16-2-4) at 10 a.m. Viera is seeded second and DeLand third.
The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 1 Ponte Vedra and No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas in the state final on March 2 at 10 a.m.
Viera has outscored its postseason opponents by a 20-4 margin. The Hawks haven't lost since Dec. 20, when they fell to Merritt Island 1-0.

Gio Carneiro converted a penalty kick for the game's only score.
The Hawks improved to 21-2 with the shutout of New Smyrna Beach, which ended its season at 25-2-1.
In three tournament victories, the Hawks have only allowed one goal, winning by a combined 10-1.
The Hawks enter the semifinal round as the No. 4 seed and face No. 1 Niceville in DeLand on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The winner of that game will play the winner of No. 2 South Broward vs. No. 3 Bloomingdale for the state title March 2 at 1 p.m.
