Suns star Deandre Ayton throws shade on head coach Monty Williams I The Rush

The Phoenix Suns 2022-2023 season is already off to a rocky start as center Deandre Ayton told reporters he hasn’t spoken with head coach Monty Williams since last season’s Game 7 blowout loss to the Dallas Mavericks. A different storm is brewing in the NFL as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are relocating from Central Florida to Miami in anticipation of Hurricane Ian. The Rush wonders if Tampa will be good houseguests as they take over the Dolphins’ facilities, or… if they’ll run amok while their Florida foe is on the road in Cincinnati.

- How have you and Monty been able to move on--

DEANDRE AYTON: I haven't spoken to Monty. No, I haven't spoke to him at all ever since the game.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

JARED QUAY: There doesn't seem to be much sunshine and the Phoenix Suns organization at the moment. As you heard, big man Deandre Ayton say he hasn't spoken to his head coach since last season.

- Say what now?

JARED QUAY: After how last season ended, looks like my guy is holding on to a serious grudge.

- Wouldn't you?

JARED QUAY: If you recall, Suns head coach Monty Williams benched the Suns center when Phoenix got their asses whipped by the Mavs in game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.

- But wait, there's more.

JARED QUAY: In the offseason, Ayton signed a four year $133 million offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers only to be told, sorry, not sorry by the Suns, who matched the offer because of restricted free agency.

- Damn!

JARED QUAY: And if you're thinking to yourself, Ayton got paid, so he should probably just let bygones be bygones, right? Think again.

- Are you happy to be here, DA?

DEANDRE AYTON: Yeah, I'm all right.

JARED QUAY: Think of how miserable someone must want to be to leave the sprawling metropolis of Phoenix, Arizona for Indianapolis.

- Yeah, that [BLEEP] crazy.

JARED QUAY: I love St. Elmo as much as the next guy, but steak ain't got [BLEEP] on a Scottsdale pool party. It looks like there's going to be plenty of drama in the desert this season. And I'll be watching. Meanwhile, there's a different kind of storm brewing in the NFL. With Hurricane Ian threatening to wreak havoc on Central Florida, the Buccaneers have abandoned ship in Tampa and are headed south to Miami.

[MUSIC - WILL SMITH, "MIAMI"]

- Welcome to Miami.

- Bienvenido a Miami.

JARED QUAY: The Bucs will be taking over the Dolphins practice facilities and weight rooms since the Phins will be on the road for a Thursday night game against the Bengals. Hopefully the Bucs will be good houseguests though. Like I wouldn't try to leave in prank snakes and spiders in Danny Crossman's office. The Phins' special teams coach told the Miami Herald that Sunday's infamous butt punt would never get a smile from him. Damn. My man has no sense of humor.

- Hey, it ain't that serious. It's only football.

JARED QUAY: I wouldn't be surprised if Tom Brady sneaks into head coach Mike McDaniels' office and uses the shower though because he probably hasn't used one this season.
