The Rush: Not wanting to trade for Ben Simmons costs Warriors $50K

Ben Simmons’ trade demand is a thorn in the side of the 76ers, and caused Warriors owner Joe Lacob to be $50K lighter in the pocketbook. Elsewhere in the NBA, the Timerwolves sacked their team president, much to the surprise of Karl-Anthony Towns. In the NFL, Tom Brady says the league has gone soft, Antonio Brown is on the COVID list and Tua Tagovailoa is out with fractured ribs. Plus, watch the Jets get roasted by a kid on TikTok and check out which star is in KAT’s mentions trying to steer him out of Minneapolis.

- There's a Patriot charging up the middle at Zach with no blocking at all. This Jets dude is being pancaked on the ground. We have these two idiots staring at each other, like, yo, what are we doing? I don't know. Let's just stand here. We have 78 touching his own lineman. On top of that, we have two receivers with zero separation. And the cherry on top has to be Zach Wilson throwing this pick. And Corey Davis has no hops.

[WHOOSH]

JARED QUAY: Only the Jets can get demolished like that by a kid on TikTok. At least Zach Wilson made it out of that game against the Patriots unscathed, which is more than we can say for Tua Tagovailoa.

- What happened to you?

JARED QUAY: The Dolphins quarterback isn't playing this weekend after getting some ribs cracked--

[CRUNCH]

--early in Sunday's game against the Bills. Tua was attempting to pass on fourth down when he got drilled causing this injury.

- Yikes.

JARED QUAY: Plays like that make Tom Brady's latest comments pretty interesting. In a recent episode of Let's Go podcast, the Bucs quarterback said, quote, "There are a lot of plays and hits that are happening on quarterbacks now that are flags for defensive players that probably weren't 10 or 15 years ago. So I say the game is a little softer than it used to be," end quote. Has anyone benefited more from this softness than Tom Brady, though?

- Uh.

JARED QUAY: No, nobody, the dude is 44 years old and still playing. Because he's a quarterback, and the league protects quarterbacks. You can get a roughing-the-passer penalty for just looking at Tom Brady too tough.

- OK, I looked.

JARED QUAY: Tom might be protected in the pocket. But he'll be without a significant piece of armor on Sunday.

- Huh, who that?

JARED QUAY: The Bucs put receiver Antonio Brown on a COVID-19 list, which means he's likely out against the Rams. 100% of the Bucs players are fully vaccinated.

- Allegedly.

JARED QUAY: So hopefully, AB will be back in action soon. Meanwhile in Minnesota, there's all kinds of action.

- Not the good kind.

JARED QUAY: Just before the start of training camp, the T-Wolves fired President of Basketball Ops Gersson Rosas, which is apparently news to star Karl-Anthony Towns, who tweeted this. Apparently the media let the cat out of the bag before anyone told Towns the news. New team owner Alex Rodriguez didn't call up KAT and give him a heads-up?

- Not good.

JARED QUAY: Atlanta Dream team owner and friend of "The Rush" Renee Montgomery got all up in KAT's mentions dropping a not-so-subtle hint that he should think about his future with the Hawks. On the flip side, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob got find a cool $50,000 for tampering after he said he didn't want to trade for Ben Simmons. Oh, that's got to be one of the craziest fines of all time in any sport.

My man was like, nah, my team is straight. And they was like, that's $50,000. I mean, if you had to pay every time they turned people down, I mean, let's be honest, man, I'd probably be rich right now. You know how many girls turned me down in middle school? If I got a nickel for every time a girl told me, hey, I want to give you my phone number, I'd probably have about $30.
