PAMELA MALDONADO: Hey, Yahoo Sportsbook. I'm Pam Maldonado with "Stats That Matter" for Week 5 of the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers defense is best in the league for opponent yards per rush attempt. The bet to make, Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey under 52 and 1/2 total rushing yards.
McCaffrey is evading tackles on only 18% of his total carries. That's 38th in the league. You can't break off for a big run if you're too busy getting stopped. In four games this season, he's had only three carries of 15 yards or more, while the San Fran defense against 14 different players has only allowed one to surpass this total in week 3 against Denver's Javonte Williams. McCaffrey is, however, seeing 89% of the total target share. But that also comes in the form of receiving yards.
Second in targets, and it leads the offense in receptions. As a near 7-point underdog, the Panthers could absolutely abandon the run early, and instead, we could see McCaffrey more in a passing role. So the play to make, Christian McCaffrey under 52 and 1/2 total rushing yards.
