‘It was like a video game’: Antonio Williams details first game
Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams has only been with the program for a few months, but the freshman has already made an impact.
The former four-star recruit made the most of his opportunities against Georgia Tech on Monday.
Although Brannon Spector got the nod to start in the slot against the Yellow Jackets, Williams saw the field often, reeling in a team-high four receptions for 37 yards.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Williams discussed what his first college game was like for him.
“It felt good,” Williams said. “It’s all new, and it was my first game. I just tried to make the best of my opportunities and just catch the ball and get up field.”
While the Irmo, S.C. native was somewhat coy about his play in week one, he acknowledged the surrealness of the experience.
“It was like a video game,” Williams said. “Running out on that field, I just had to close my eyes and take it all in.
The freshman added that he believes he brings a certain level of explosiveness to the Tigers’ offense.
He said that learning the playbook has been difficult at times, but he’s getting the grasp of it and has learned a lot since he first arrived at Clemson.
Ranked as the No. 6 wide receiver prospect by 247Sports Composite rankings, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder thought it “was an honor” to receive a Clemson offer.
“I didn’t know it was going to happen, but I’m glad they offered me, and it was probably the best decision I’ve made in my life,” Williams said.
As the Tigers prepare for their game against Furman on Saturday, Williams will look to build on his week one performance.
