Vote on this week's nominees

Five athletes have been chosen as nominees for Athlete of the Week for the period from April 21-27.

Voting will be open until the end of the day Wednesday to decide the winner from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.

Nominees are based primarily on results reported to bgmsports@gannett.com or events covered by sports reporters from the publications.

The nominees:

Collin Dicks, Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton track & field: Dicks was a triple-winner at Windsor's Gerry O'Donnell Invitational, helping his team to second place. He won the 100-meter dash in 11.53 seconds, the 200 in 23.2 seconds and the triple jump with a top effort of 40 feet, 5.25 inches.

Alex Holmes, Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour baseball: The Schuyler Storm posted a 3-1 record during the week thanks in large part to the play of Holmes. He went 9-for-13 with a triple, double, 10 runs, nine stolen bases and four RBIs during the stretch. He gave up two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings in a loss to 2023 Class B state runner-up Lansing.

Matti Johnston, Corning softball: Johnston's offensive week included nine hits in 19 at-bats over five games. She homered, tripled twice and drove in six runs. Johnston's pitching record was 3-1 and she gave up six earned runs over 15 innings.

Danica LaBarre, Susquehanna Valley softball: LaBarre's cumulative effort at the plate over five games included eight hits in 15 at-bats, with a homer, triple and two doubles. She drove in seven runs in a 19-6 win against Elmira.

Brady Woodworth, Horseheads boys lacrosse: Woodworth helped the Blue Raiders to a 3-0 week that put their record at 9-1. He registered four goals and four assists in a 17-1 triumph against Binghamton, then came back with two goals in a 10-4 win over Ithaca.
