How did University of Vermont men's hockey and women's basketball teams fare on the Dec. 29-30 weekend?

FRIDAY, DEC. 29

Women’s basketball

Princeton 67, Vermont 47

P: Madison St. Rose 23 points. Kaitlyn Chen 17 points, 5 assists. Skye Belker 11 points.

V: Emma Utterback 23 points, 5 rebounds.

Note: Visiting Princeton shot 50.9% from the field (29 of 57) and held a 38-22 advantage in paint scoring in the wire-to-wire win in Burlington. Princeton outscored Vermont 39-19 in the middle quarters and led by as many as 27 points. The Catamounts close nonleague play at 8-6.

Men's hockey

Vermont 5, St. Thomas 1

V: Jeremie Bucheler 1G, 1A. Andrei Buyalsky 1G. Dawson Good 1G. Ryan Miotti 1G. Nick Ahern 2A. Gabe Carriere 28 saves.

ST: Ryan O'Neill 1G. Aaron Trotter 27 saves.

Note: Vermont won its fourth straight game to improve to 8-7-1. The Catamounts have scored 17 goals over their winning streak.

SATURDAY, DEC. 30

Men’s hockey

Vermont 4, St. Thomas 1

ST: Luke Laylin 1G. Jake Sibell 21 saves.

Note: Vermont raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first period to wrap a weekend sweep of St. Thomas. Vermont has won five straight games to improve to 9-7-1.

UVM coach Steve Wiedler in a statement: "Great effort from our guys tonight. We won the special teams battle today and often that is a key to victory at this level. There were stretches where St. Thomas put the pressure on, but Gabe weathered the storm for us. He was a difference maker tonight as he has been all year."
