If you’re planning on making a trip to the 2024 Kentucky Derby this year, then you should know it can be as easy to score tickets online as it is to figure out your trackside wardrobe. We’ll lead you to a guide on how to buy tickets to the Kentucky Derby to make it as breezy as the rush of thoroughbreds galloping out of the gate.

But there are a few key things you’ll need to know that are new for this year, including new seating options (and yes, new prices), so we’ve gathered up all the essential information about your ticket options for the 150th Run for the Roses.

Due to the major overhaul of the Churchill Downs Paddock, there are a variety of different seating options this year to replace the ground-level viewing that’s been in place since the 1980s. What does that mean for you? Well, there’s a new multi-level structure that’s offering elevated views (but for a more premium price).

Here’s where you can still find Kentucky Derby 2024 tickets online, plus how to get discounts on your seating.

Where to Buy 2024 Kentucky Derby Tickets Online

Kentucky Derby tickets are officially sold on the “Seating Experiences” section of KentuckyDerby.com. This will outline your various seating options, along with the amenities and experiences you can get at each viewing tier.

Two-day tickets to the Oaks and Derby can start easily exceed $12K, but if you don’t have “rubbing elbows with celebs in a box” money, you can still attend the Derby and stand in the infield for $60-$100 if you buy your tickets early enough. If you’re planning to attend both the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, there are also several packages that combine Derby and Oaks tickets with access to exclusive hotel and transportation accommodations (these packages range from $2,999 to $13,000+ per person).

Ticketmaster hosts the official resale marketplace for Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks tickets. But you can also check other resale sites like StubHub and SeatGeek to see what General Admission tickets are currently selling for — but don’t wait much longer, because they won’t get any cheaper.

What Are the Seating Options for the 2024 Kentucky Derby?

One thing to note when you’re buying Derby tickets online, is that not all tickets on Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks days include seating. Here’s an update on this year’s seating choices and what that might mean for your budget.

Infield Tickets (General Admission)

These General Admission tickets are the most budget-friendly of the bunch, and grant you access to the field inside the race track, as well as public spaces near the Paddock. Since you’re in the center of the race track, you probably won’t be able to see the actual races, so you’ll have to rely on the announcer or watch from a TV screen. For this tier, we highly recommend bringing a foldable chair since it’s standing room only, so you’re not on your feet all day.

Frontside Plaza Walkaround (aka Standing Paddock Tickets)

For the 150th Kentucky Derby this year, there’s a brand new standing-room-only ticket available — but it’s not in the infield. This ticket offers Plaza and Paddock access with views from the ground along with offsite parking and shuttle access and all-inclusive food and drinks. While you won’t have a seat, or direct views of the race, you won’t be stuck on the field shoulder to shoulder with a bustling crowd.

Infield Bleacher Seats (aka Turf Bleachers)

This is the most affordable “reserved seating” type ticket you can get for the Kentucky Derby. You’ll definitely be able to see the track, and seating includes a view of the final stretch of the Kentucky Derby race and faces the grandstand. It’s uncovered seating though, so you’re still exposed the elements, but these seats get you access to restrooms, Paddock areas, food and drink, and parking the Kentucky Expo Center with a free shuttle to the track.

Premium Reserved Seats & Boxes

Beyond GA and Infield Bleachers, the price starts to go up significantly, but so do the amenities. Generally your reserved seating or box ticket will come with an all-inclusive food and beverage menu (which means all you can drink Mint Juleps!) along with off-Site parking access at the Kentucky Exposition Center, with complimentary shuttle service to Churchill Downs Paddock. These include:

  • Grandstand Bleacher Seats: Backless bleacher-style seating (covered and uncovered) on the first and second levels of Churchill Downs with a view of the finishing stretch.

  • First Turn Reserved Seating: Covered seating typically used by media and reporters. You’ll have a view of the horses being paraded from the track to the barn, then out to the paddock right before the race begins.

  • Clubhouse or Grandstand Box Seating: Boxes have six padded, fold-down seats and are located on all three levels (there are covered and uncovered options). Very limited resale seats are available as of right now, with some resale tickets priced at more than $4,000 each.

  • Homestretch Club: Named for its excellent view of the “home stretch,” this section also has a view of the Big Board and the Winner’s Circle. Seating is uncovered and outdoors, but this clubhouse level also offers access to an air-conditioned club on the first floor with a buffet and private bar. Tickets start at $4,500.
