Vanderdoes cleared to play this fall for UCLA
Eddie Vanderdoes, a Rivals.com five-star defensive tackle in the Class of 2013, has been cleared to play this fall at UCLA, according to Rick Kimbrel of recruiting website BruinBru.com.
The highly rated defensive lineman and former USC commit, who signed a National Letter of Intent this past February at Notre Dame, was initially ruled to be ineligible in 2013 because Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly would not release the 6-3, 310-pounder from his LOI, citing "integrity" purposes.
The Auburn, CA, product will now get to play for Jim L. Mora and the Bruins this fall, however, despite ND refusing to release Vanderdoes because the lineman won an appeal with the National Letter of Intent committee.
Because of his high talent level, Vanderdoes should be an immediate contributor for the Pac-12 South favorites. With Datone Jones gone via graduation, rising senior Owamagbe Odighizuwa questionable to return after undergoing hip surgery in the offseason and Brandon Tuliaupupu tearing his ACL near the end of spring camp, Mora is in desperate need of help up front.
Vanderdoes will now no longer have to give up a year of playing eligibility in Westwood.
