Vanderbilt baseball score vs. Florida: Live updates from vital weekend series
Vanderbilt baseball finishes off a road swing in Gainesville as the Commodores head to the Condron Family Ballpark for a series against Florida that could decide the SEC East.
No. 4 Vanderbilt (35-13, 17-7 SEC) leads the division by two games over the No. 5 Gators (27-6, 15-9). A series win by the Commodores would nearly clinch the East, needing just a combination of two more Vanderbilt wins and South Carolina losses, plus one more win or Kentucky loss, to secure the division. The Commodores can control their destiny in the division with at least one win this weekend.
The overall SEC title could also be in play, as Vanderbilt is currently tied with Arkansas for the conference lead, half a game ahead of LSU.
However, the Commodores have also dealt with injury issues in their rotation. Normal Friday starter Carter Holton was scratched from his scheduled start Friday morning, with Patrick Reilly replacing him. Holton has struggled during the past few weeks and according to coach Tim Corbin, got checked out for a potential injury earlier this week.
Vanderbilt also swapped Hunter Owen and Devin Futrell in the rotation.
