Valdosta State Lady Blazers to host Div. II South region tournament

Mar. 10—VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State Lady Blazers got what they were hoping for Sunday night, the opportunity to host the NCAA South national basketball regional.

The full tournament field was announced during the DII women's basketball 2024 selection show, which aired on NCAA.com.

SIAC champion Miles (22-6) is VSU's first round opponent, to be played at 5 p.m. Friday.

The rest of the bracket at VSU sees No. 4 Nova Southeastern (23-5) face No. 6 Lee University (21-10); No. 2 Union University (29-3) versus Eckerd (19-11) and Tampa (28-6) squares off with Embry-Riddle (20-9).

Union's loss to Lee in the Gulf South semifinals did not affect their stock, with Union earning the No. 2 to Lee's No. 3.

The tournament at Valdosta State will take place Friday March 15, Saturday March 16 and Monday, March 18.

No. 1 seeds — and other hosts — are Azusa Pacific (28-3) in the west; Texas Woman's University (29-4 in the south central; Catawba (23-5) in the southeast; Grand Valley State (29-2) in the midwest; Bentley (26-5) in the east; Southern Nazarene (28-2) in the central and Gannon (32-2) in the Atlantic.

Defending national champions Ashland (30-1) earned a No. 2 seed in the midwest.

Elsewhere in the Peach State, Georgia Southwestern made the tournament as a No. 6 seed in the southeast. Augusta University also made it in the southeast as a No. 7.
