USC football target Vicari Swain sets commitment date, previews decision

Safety Vicari Swain of Carrollton, Georgia has set 3:45 p.m. Aug. 12 for his college commitment announcement.

That coincides with his season-opening game at Central High School, and he plans to announce at a gathering at his school with teammates, family and friends. Swain (6-0, 175) said he is down to South Carolina, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt with his decision.

Swain visited Mississippi State unofficially last Saturday. He took an official visit to USC June 24 and was in for a junior day in January. At this point, he has a feeling about the school he’ll choose.

“It’s the relationship we have built,” Swain said. “I keep hearing from the coaches, the head coach every day, making me feel the love.”

As for the Gamecocks, Swain said their fans have just blown him away.

“What really impressed me is their fan base is top, a huge fan base,” Swain said. “The coaches and the players who are already committed, they reach out a lot, too.”

He’s considered an athlete by the recruiting networks. Swain said he has talked with USC offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield about playing receiver, and he’s been talking with secondary coach Torrian Gray about playing corner and some safety. Vanderbilt also is talking with him about playing both ways, and Mississippi State is approaching him as a receiver.

Swain said he does not have a preference when it comes to a position.
