UNI's Parker Keckeisen, Iowa State's Casey Swiderski each win wrestling titles at Grand View Open

Iowa State and Northern Iowa wrestling sent a number of their young guns and a couple key cogs of their lineups to Grimes for the Grand View Open on Saturday.

Panthers junior and NCAA finalist Parker Keckesien was the headline of the afternoon, making his season debut to get some work before the NWCA All-Star Classic. He wanted to get some good matches in, and did so by placing first with four bonus-point victories.

Here are the results and key takeaways from the open:

Casey Swiderski takes first place, wrestles unattached

Swiderski was one of many guys for the Cyclones to wrestle unattached, with Giomo, Hagarty and Naaktgeboren the only ones who wrestled attached on the day for Iowa State.

Swiderski, an NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds as a freshman last year, won four matches by technical fall and the final by major decision over Blake Gonzalez of Grand View.

Swiderski has yet to suit up in a Cyclone singlet this season, with Anthony Echemendia taking the starting spot at 149 since defeating him in wrestle-offs in the preseason.

The former No. 3 recruit in the nation looked great in Grimes, so it'll be interesting to see if or when he can retake his spot in the lineup at his current weight or slide back to 141 pounds where he was one win away from All-American status last season.

Future looks bright for Northern Iowa

In every freshman/sophomore class the Panthers sent someone in, Northern Iowa came out with a champion. You can't argue with those results, especially with 11 pins and eight technical falls between the five.

Fox was particularly impressive, winning four of his five matches by pin, including two by 44 seconds or less. With Lance Runyon and Jared Simma ahead of him at 174, it's a long road, but something to be excited about in the future with results like that.
