Union City's Parker Williams voted Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week

UNION CITY – As the 2024 spring sports season comes to a close, we here in Branch County have much to celebrate. Many local track and field athletes will be vying for a state title next week while athletes in soccer, baseball, softball, and golf compete in their respective Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) state tournaments.

With only a few weeks left in the season we here at The Daily Reporter wish to continue celebrating those student athletes who excel on and off the field of play. This week, you the readers have voted in record numbers, doubling the highest vote total of any athlete in the weekly Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week poll. The winner of the record-breaking vote is Union City track and field freshman Parker Williams who has been voted as this week’s Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week.

Willaims finished in first place in the first round of voting with the Top Performers poll and continued that dominance in the voting with a win in the Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week vote after receiving just over 35% of the record setting number of votes.

Williams, who is just a freshman on the Union City girls track and field team that just wrapped up a Big 8 conference title, earned Athlete of the Week honors after notching a win at the John Greene Mendon Invitational on May 10 in the 400-meter run in a time of 1:05.38. Williams was also a member of the third place 1,600 relay team and the second place 3,200 relay team. Since then, Williams went on to take a fourth-place finish in the 400 at the MHSAA Division Three Regional meet in a time of 1:03.40, a personal best, to go along with an eighth-place finish as part of the 1,600-relay team. Wiliams finished off the long stretch of track action with a runner-up finish in the 400 at the Big 8 league meet this past Wednesday in a time of 1:04.97, to go along with a third-place finish as part of the 1,600-relay team and a second-place finish as part of the 3,200-relay team.

Earning a second-place finish in the Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week poll is Quincy soccer ace Sammi Hollenbaugh who took runner-up honors with 20% of the vote.

Also receiving votes for this week’s poll were Jaiden Hayes of Bronson track; Kaylee Modert of Quincy softball; Mason Graves of Quincy baseball; and Maren DeBeau of Coldwater softball.

The new week of voting for Athlete of the Week will begin Friday at 3 p.m. and will run through Monday at 9 a.m. with our weekly Top Performers poll. The top vote getters in our weekly Top Performers poll will move on to our weekly Breathe Free Duct Cleaning Athlete of the Week poll, which will begin Tuesday at 5 a.m. and run through Thursday at 5 p.m.
