Union City's Jackson voted The Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week

BRANCH COUNTY – Only one week remains in the regular season for high school football here in Branch County. That means we have had eight weeks of exciting action, filled with impressive performances from all five teams in the Branch County coverage area.

Throughout the season we here at The Daily Reporter have asked you, the readers, for your input on who had the best week on the gridiron, with our weekly The Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week poll. The voters have not disappointed, regularly turning out in droves to vote for their favorite player and this week was no different.

So, with that said, a hearty congratulations goes out to Union City senior OL/LB Owen Jackson, this week’s The Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week. Jackson was honored this week with 46% of the vote in a poll that garnered almost 19,0000 votes from across the country.

Jackson was honored for his work on the gridiron in a tough loss by Union City, as the Chargers dropped their week 8 contest to the defending Division 8 state champions in Ottawa Lake Whiteford by the score of 45-7. Whiteford found themselves in a dogfight early and were able to tire down the Chargers and pull away late, however, despite the score, Union City showed no quit, a charge led by Jackson. Jackson not only racked up a game high 14 tackles, including one for a loss, but he was also routinely seen prowling the sidelines encouraging his teammates throughout a rainy and windy night. Jackson’s Chargers squad will look to race into the playoffs with a road match up versus D6 Buchanan.

Finishing in second place in the weekly vote was Quincy jack-of-all-trades Noah Pearson, who received nearly 30% of the vote. Pearson did a little bit of everything for the Orioles in their tough loss to Summerfield, leading the team in rushing with 17 carries for 82 yards and a score, to go along with one catch for 16 yards and four tackles on defense. Quincy will look to close out their season with a win as they host Centreville.

Finishing in third place was Bronson’s Miles Losinski who led the Vikings on both sides of the ball in their heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Sand Creek last Friday. Bronson dropped a tough 8-6 loss to the Aggies as a missed two-point conversion early in the second half proved to be the difference in the game. Losinski played solid on both sides of the ball, scoring the lone touchdown of the game for the Vikings on offense and playing solid defense. Bronson will look to end their season with a win as they finish off the
