Union City golf breaks school record in Jamboree win; Crance takes medalist honors

UNION CITY – When a team seems to hit a wall, no matter the sport, a trip home always seems to do the trick.

That is what happened with the Union City Charger golf team on Monday as Union City hosted the fifth Big 8 conference jamboree of the season at Turtle Creek Golf Course.

Union City played lights out from the opening tee time, breaking the school’s previous record for lowest combined score at a jamboree with a score of 151. The Chargers rolled to the win on Wednesday by nearly 20 strokes, defeating the Quincy Orioles who finished in second place with a score of 170, which coincidentally is Quincy’s best score of the season.

Crance played out of his mind on Monday, using a 2-under-par 34 shot during a practice round this weekend to attack the course with vigor. Crance had just as much success Monday as he did this past weekend, carding a spectacular 1-under par round of 35 to take the win. .

Crance was not exactly alone atop the conference standings on Monday, as teammate Logan Mears worked his way up to second place after carding an even-par round of 36, giving Union City both first and second place in the jamboree standings. Baum of Springport finished in third with a score of 37, followed by Bronson’s first golfer in Carson Norton who shot a 39.
