UNC has historically bad first half at Notre Dame

Wednesday night is an absolute must-win game for the UNC basketball program as they are in South Bend to play a Notre Dame team that is 2-14 in conference play so far.

And it didn’t get off to a great start.

With both teams struggling to score the basketball, it’s the Tar Heels that find themselves trailing by eight at halftime. UNC couldn’t take advantage of a poor start by the Fighting Irish. And instead, the Tar Heels had a historically bad first half.

UNC was 5-of-28 from the field in the first half, making just 18.5% of their attempts. That sets a new record for the lowest field goal percentage in a half in program history as John Bauman points out:

That 5-of-28 mark also includes 0-for-11 from the three-point line and had 0 assists. Yes, ZERO assists.

The Tar Heels are going to need a big second half if they want to save their season.
