UNC Football left out of AP Top 25, receives votes

The first Associated Press Top 25 poll of the 2022 college football season is out and that means we are that much closer to kickoff in a few weeks.

For the UNC football program, they enter this season in a bit of a different situation than last. In 2021, they were ranked as a Top 10 team in the preseason before losing their opener at Virginia Tech. Things snowballed for Mack Brown’s team and they enter a big 2022 campaign unranked.

While UNC didn’t make the Top 25 they were one of the teams receiving votes, getting nine in total for the preseason poll that was released on Monday.

Brown and his team may like this situation a little better as there isn’t much preseason hype surrounding them, allowing them to fly under the radar and they have the chance to prove that early in Week 0.

A total of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams were in the first AP Poll led by No. 4 Clemson. Following the Tigers are No. 13 NC State, No. 16 Miami, No. 17 Pitt, and No. 22 Wake Forest.
