UNC basketball program reaches out to West Virginia player in transfer portal

The North Carolina Tar Heels have three scholarships available to fill for the 2023-24 college basketball, and they will likely try to fill one of those spots through the transfer portal.

Hubert Davis and his staff have already landed four transfers and a fifth could be coming. Earlier in the week a report surfaced that the Tar Heels were interested in a West Virginia player in the transfer portal and had reached out to him.

Per The Portal Report, the Tar Heels are among the teams that have reached out to former Mountaineers power forward James Okonkwo.

UConn, LSU, Nebraska and Texas A&M are among the other schools that have also shown interest.

The 6-foot-8, 210-pound Okonkwo entered the transfer portal last week after Bob Huggins resigned. He averaged  2.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 11 minutes per game in his first season with the program. He appeared in 31 games last season.
