UNC basketball dips into transfer portal, gets commitment from Brown transfer Paxson Wojcik
North Carolina added a 3-point threat and potential wing to its rotation Monday.
Paxson Wojcik, a 6-foot-5 transfer from Brown who has a connection to the Tar Heels, announced his intentions on social media after visiting UNC over the weekend.
Wojcik’s dad, Doug, was an assistant coach at Carolina under Matt Doherty from 2000-03. Doug Wojcik is currently an assistant at Michigan State after head coaching stints at Tulsa and College of Charleston.
When his father coached in Chapel Hill, Paxson, then an infant, took photos both on the court at the Dean E. Smith Center and in the lap of current assistant coach Sean May, who was then a starting forward.
If any UNC Tar Heels are wondering how deep your newest commit, Paxson Wojcik's ties are to Chapel Hill.

Paxson Wojcik has played in the Smith Center as a visitor. In the second game of coach Hubert Davis’ first season, he scored 14 points -- despite going 0-for-5 from 3-point range -- grabbed six rebounds, had three assists and two steals in a game the Bears led at halftime before losing 94-87 on Nov. 12, 2021.
Wojcik is a graduate transfer. The Charleston, S.C., native was second on the Bears in scoring with a 14.9 average per game; second in rebounding at 7.2 per game; and led the team with 87 assists. He started his career at Loyola Chicago, playing 2019-21 for the Ramblers before playing 2021-23 for the Bears.

Wojcik fills a need on the Heels’ roster with the news of guard Caleb Love’s decision to enter the transfer portal. Wojcik, who shot 38 percent from 3-point range last season, could factor into the rotation at guard or be used on the wing. Carolina finds itself without any true small forwards with Leaky Black exhausting his eligibility and both Puff Johnson and Dontrez Styles entering the transfer portal.
