Umpire clinic set April 13 in Oak Hill

Apr. 4—Outreach umpire clinics have returned to Little League, and West Virginia was selected as a location for 2024.Below is information on a one-day clinic for any level of umpire, regardless of skill level or knowledge. It is perfect for those just looking to learn more, clean up skills or more, organizers say. The clinic will be led by Little League umpire instructors.

The clinic is set for April 13 at Oak Hill Middle School, 320 West Oyler Avenue, Oak Hill, WV 25901 from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Registration is limited to 35 and is now open. The Little League One-Day Outreach Clinic will be led by members of the Little League instructor staff and seeks to help umpires of all experience levels learn the fundamentals of umpiring Little League baseball and softball. Instruction will focus on the role of the Little League umpire, the basics of working the plate, field mechanics and working the two-umpire system, and leverage on-field drills and simulations to introduce, apply and reinforce the concepts presented.

Registration closes at 2 a.m. EST on April 8.

The day's events begin with registration from 8:30 to 9 a.m., followed by Session No. 1 from 9 a.m. until noon. Lunch will be held from noon to 1 p.m., followed by Session No. 2 from 1 to 4:3 p.m. Camp closing and dismissal will be held from 4:30 to 5 p.m.

Attendees should plan to bring plate gear or at least a mask to be used in live ball drills. They are also asked to bring a ball glove to participate in live on-field drills.
