MIDLAND — The Hanks softball season came to an end Saturday in the Region I-5A semifinals at Midland Greenwood High School with a 9-6 loss to Colleyville Heritage.

The Panthers won Game 1 of the best-of-three series, 4-2, on Friday. Hanks' season ends with a 38-3 record and the Panthers advance to the Region I-5A final against Justin Northwest.

In Saturday's loss, Hanks was led by Judith Osuna, Mia Bailey, Alejandra Salazar and Desirae Spearman. Osuna had two hits and an RBI, Bailey hit a home run, Salazar had two hits and an RBI and Spearman hit a home run. Spearman also hit a home run in Friday's game and finished the season with 30 home runs.

The Panthers led 7-0 before Hanks rallied to make it a close game. Hanks had the trying run on base in the final inning but the Panthers worked out of the inning.

Hanks finished the postseason with series wins against El Paso High, Abilene High and Abilene Wylie.

"These kids battled," Hanks coach Shelley Prather said. "I'm proud of them. We gave ourselves some opportunities and if we have some things go our way, the series could have changed. You have to give Colleyville Heritage credit, they made plays they had to and we were so close."
