UIL Boys Regional Golf Recap: Tascosa boys earn state tournament spot

The Amarillo Tascosa boys golf team has qualified for the UIL state tournament after a third place finish at the Region I-5A Tournament at Lubbock’s Hillcrest Country Club earlier this week.

The Rebels shot 619 as a team for the third-place spot and was nine stroke behind Argyle and Burleson Centennial, who tied for first. Brady Holmes led Tascosa over the two-day tournament, firing a 150. Other team members were Derek Darnell, Slayde Stevens, Joseph Bybee, Grant Young and Brady Holmes.

Amarillo High finished 10th in the team standings.

The Class 5A boys state tournament is April 29-30 at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown.

Other Panhandle notables in UIL boys regional tournaments:

• Bushland’s Jenner King finished tied for sixth and earned a spot as an individual at the state tournament. He shot a 76-75—151 over the two days at Abilene’s Diamondback National Golf Club.

The Class 3A state tournament is April 29-30 at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin.

• In Class 2A, Sanford-Fritch’s Danner Price finished third and qualified for the state tournament, firing a 147 over two days at Palo Duro Creek Golf Course in Canyon. Farwell’s Cooper Nichols also earned a state spot with a 150 over the two days.

The Class 2A state tournament is April 29-30 at Lion's Municipal Golf Course in Austin.

• Pampa’s Sawyer Burleson earned a state spot in Class 4A with a 142 over two days at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock. Burleson finished the tournament tied for second.

Canyon Randall finished fourth as a team in the tournament and was 22 strokes behind third place Brownwood.

The Class 4A boys state tournament is April 29-30 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
