Tyreek Hill says Mike McDaniel called him out: ‘We pay you all this money for what?'

Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill says coach Mike McDaniel called him out in front of the team following the wild-card loss to Kansas City.

That’s not all.

Hill says he liked it.

Hill spoke on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast with Gillie Da King and Wallo when the subject of criticism came up. That’s when Hill referred back to Miami’s season-ending 26-7 loss, which included a play in which cornerback L’Jarius Sneed manhandled Hill.

“He called me out,” Hill said. “He’s like, ‘Reek, bro, you’re supposed to be the (expletive) best player in the (expletive) league, and you got this guy putting hands all over you like that. Man, we pay you all this money for what?’ ”

Fair to say some players — most? — wouldn’t be thrilled in such a situation.

Hill isn’t most players.

"And for me, I love (expletive) like that. I’m gonna take that (expletive) to heart and I’m gonna get better from it. That’ll never happen again to me in my life, man. You feel me? If a (expletive) cannot hold me accountable, I feel like I’m not gonna be able to get better, you know what I’m saying? Like, obviously, the coaches can bypass that, you know what I’m saying, and just be like, ‘Ah, he’ll get better from it.’ But if he’s not saying nothing, like the other guys in the locker room, they’re gonna look at it as, ‘Oh, if ‘Reek can do it, I can do it.’ And that’s not getting the team better. I need everybody to get better, bro.”

Hill is particularly interested in pushing Jaylen Waddle.

“Baby brother Waddle, I got him up under my wings, trying to teach him,” Hill said. “I want everybody to get paid, bro.”

Hill was Miami’s MVP and an All-Pro again in 2023, but the Chiefs game wasn’t his day (nor was it for any of his teammates). Hill caught five passes and led Miami with 62 receiving yards. That included a 53-yard touchdown reception, meaning his other four catches netted just 9 yards.

It was Kansas City’s first step toward a second consecutive Super Bowl title since trading Hill to Miami. Hill said he took a trip to Tokyo to get away from the 2022 Chiefs title run without him but had gotten over it to the point that he watched the most recent Super Bowl and reached out to his former teammates to congratulate them.

“I’m really happy where I am right now,” Hill said.
