Tynes balks at non-football injury designation
Kicker Lawrence Tynes, who has been battling a MRSA infection, was placed on the non-football injury list by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Though he will still receive his salary, he instead said he should be placed on injured reserve because the Buccaneeers are responsible for the injury since he came into contact with the infection at the team's facility. By being on NFI, he does not receive an accrued season toward his pension. Being on injured reserve would count as an accrued season.
"This whole thing is wrong," Tynes told FoxSports.com, per ESPN. "My biggest emphasis is I don't want this to happen to any current or future player. I'm going to fight this thing as long as I have to, because this team should not be allowed to do this to players.''
