Two-time Olympian, Elmira native Molly Huddle named special guest for Wineglass Marathon

Two-time Olympian Molly Huddle, who grew up in Elmira, will return to the region as special guest for this year's Wineglass Marathon.

Huddle, who recently turned 39, will appear at the Wineglass Marathon Expo at the Corning Museum of Glass on Sept. 29 and 30, run in the Storflex 5K on Sept. 30 in Corning and cheer runners at the finish line on Corning's Market Street during the marathon and half-marathon Oct. 1.

Renowned runner Bart Yasso and author David McGillivray will also appear at the Expo.

Career running accomplishments are numerous for Huddle. She has 28 American titles in road races and track events and competed in the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics.

Huddle placed sixth in the 10,000 in Rio, setting an American record of 30:13.17 that was broken in March of this year by Alicia Monson (30:03.82).

In 2019, Huddle earned a fifth consecutive American outdoor title in the 10K at the USA Track & Field Championships.

Huddle and Sara Slattery co-wrote "How She Did It," a guide for runners and others featuring insight and stories from many of the sport's top women runners. Among those selling the book are Amazon and publisher Penguin Random House.

In April of 2022, Huddle gave birth to her first child with husband Kurt Benninger, daughter Josephine. Huddle lives in Providence, Rhode Island.

Huddle remains active as a runner. In March, she finished seventh in the women's race at the New York City Half with a time of 1 hours, 12 minutes, 27 seconds.

She took third in her marathon debut at the New York City Marathon in 2016 and fourth in the event in 2018.

Huddle graduated in 2002 from Elmira Notre Dame, where she won multiple state championships in cross country and track. She went on to earn All-America honors 10 times at the University of Notre Dame before starting her professional career in 2007.
