Two NFL games will be exclusively streamed in 2024 - How far can the Super Bowl be from this?

Did you enjoy the Dolphins-Chiefs NFL wild-card playoff game in January that was streamed by Peacock?

Well, if Miami makes the NFL playoffs again this season, its first postseason game could be available only on ANOTHER streaming service.

The NFL announced Tuesday that TWO games will be exclusively streamed during the 2024 season — NBCUniversal's Peacock will stream the Week 1 regular-season game in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 6, and Amazon Prime Video, which already streams "Thursday Night Football," will stream an NFL wild-card game in January 2025.

In keeping with a long-standing NFL policy, the Week 1 Brazil game on Peacock and the wild-card game on Prime will be available on free, over-the-air broadcast television in the local markets of the competing teams as well as on mobile devices with NFL+. One of the issues with that, however, is that this past January's Dolphins-Chiefs game was shown only on Miami's NBC affiliate and not West Palm Beach's, forcing Palm Beach County Dolphins fans to scramble.

NFL's historic first game in Brazil will be stream-only

The historic game in Brazil — the NFL's first regular-season game in South America — also will be the first time the league has played a game on Friday night of its opening weekend in over 50 years. The Philadelphia Eagles will be playing an opponent to be named later as will the kickoff time. P.S. — Sorry high school football fans.

“As media consumption habits evolve, the NFL continues to work with our partners to put our games on digital platforms where our fans are increasingly spending their time," said Hans Schroeder, NFL executive VP of media distribution. “The viewership success of both 'Thursday Night Football' on Prime Video and the historic wild-card game on Peacock last season are strong indicators our streaming distribution is resonating with our fans."

Prime Video, which also televised the first Black Friday game in November between the Dolphins and New York Jets, said it's proud to expand its relationship with the NFL.  The Dolphins-Chiefs wild-card game averaged — according to Peacock — approximately 23 million viewers, setting a record as the most-streamed live event in U.S. history. Additionally, the game reached 32.1 million total viewers.
