Tuesday's prep highlights: Sabalaskey throws no-hitter

Arcola 5, Salt Fork 1. Two runs in the top of the third inning and three runs in the seventh stanza were enough for the Purple Riders (1-0) to pull ahead of the Storm (0-1), with Tanner Thomas striking out 13 batters in five innings of work. Jameson Remole struck out 10 batters in four innings on the mound for Salt Fork, but Brevyn Whisman and Caiden Helmuth plated two runs apiece for the Purple Riders.

Beecher 7, Watseka 6. All six of Watseka's runs came in the top of the second inning of a nonconference loss, with Austin Marcier totaling two hits and Brayden Ketchum plating three runs to power the offense. James Newell struck out two batters on the bump for the Warriors (0-2) as well.

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 13, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 3. The fourth and sixth innings were the only frames in which the Blue Devils (1-0) didn't score during a nonconference road win over the Panthers (0-2). BHRA's offense was led by four hits from Chaz Dubois, three hits apiece from Jordan Johnson and Caden Keleminic and two hits apiece from Chaz Dubois and Enrique Rangel. Charles Cambridge had the only two hits of the game for the Panthers.

Milford 17, Donovan 0. An all-around effort from the host Bearcats (2-0) in a nonconference triumph was led by three hits and two runs from Lillie Harris and two hits apiece from Kami Muehling, Addison Lucht and Joie Girdler . Muehling also tallied a three-hit shutout in the circle.

Momence 11, Cissna Park 1. The Timberwolves (0-1) managed just two hits in a nonconference loss on their home field.

Villa Grove 7, Oakwood 6. Three runs in the top of the sixth inning and two more runs in the seventh inning helped the Blue Devils (1-0) pull past the Comets (0-1) in nonconference play. Brady Clodfelder collected three hits for Villa Grove while driving in runs alongside Cooper Clark and Nolan Morse. Alex Wallace, Jackson Dudley and Chase Harrison doubled for the Comets.

Westville 12, Tuscola 0. Cameron Steinbaugh was the winning pitcher for the Tigers (1-0) in a season-opening win over the Warriors (0-1).

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 18, Tri-County 2. Kahle Lee had the lone hit for the Titans (0-1) in a nonconference road loss to the Hatchets.

In softball

Charleston 10, Villa Grove 0. Six hits for the Blue Devils (0-1) weren't enough to earn a road win in their season opener, with Alison Pangburn doubling and Logan Lillard, Ella Schweighart and Izzy Dodd also totaling two bases apiece in the nonconference win.

LeRoy 11, Oakwood 1. Jacey Hageman picked up the win in the circle for the Panthers (2-0) as they cruised to a road win over the Comets in nonconference play. Hageman allowed three hits against two strikeouts in the five-inning game, with Laila Carr, Haley Cox, Emma Bagnell and Emily Mennenga each adding two hits to help LeRoy's offensive cause. Karleigh Nelson, Matilyn Griffis and Gracie Enos combined for Oakwood's hits.

Herscher 14, Prairie Central 10. The Hawks (0-1) collected nine hits to the Tigers' 10 hits but fell in a nonconference road game despite four hits and a double from Kyah Creek, a two-run home run from Jules Woodrey and a double from Rylee Galloway. Only four of the runs that Dixie Hogan surrendered for Prairie Central were earned.

St. Joseph-Ogden 6, Salt Fork 3. Grace Osterbur's three-hit performance included a double and a triple, while Addison Frick, Timera Blackburn-Kelley, Hayden Dahl, Halle Brazelton and Ellie Ward drove in runs to help the Spartans (1-0) earn a nonconference win at Randy Wolken Field. Alexa Jamsion led the Storm (0-1) with three hits, but Salt Fork's offense was largely limited by nine strikeouts from Amelia Huckstadt.

Unity 18, Mahomet-Seymour 5. Lindy Bates and Ruby Tarr each had three hits for the Rockets (1-0) to ignite the offense in a road win over the Bulldogs, with Bates striking out three batters in five innings of work in the circle. Ava Henderson led the Bulldogs (0-1) with two hits.

Westville 2, Tuscola 0. Abby Sabalaskey struck out 14 batters and yielded just one walk in seven no-hit innings of work for the Tigers (1-0), who opened their season with a nonconference win over the host Warriors (0-1). Sabalaskey and Lilly Keisel each had two hits while Keisel was responsible for the game's lone RBI. Kinzie Cleland struck out four batters and allowed five hits in a complete pitching performance for Tuscola.

In girls' soccer

Mattoon 7, Danville 0. The Vikings (0-1) were shut out by the host Green Wave in their season opener.

Monticello 3, Arthur Christian 0. Leah Renne scored on an assist from Tynley Jackson and Brenna Bartlow and Megan Allen additional goals for the Sages (1-0), with Addison Finet assiting on Bartlow and Allen's goals to start the season on the right foot for the visiting Sages. Goalkeeper Allison Nebelsick registered four saves to keep the Conquering Riders (0-1) off the board. Libby Henry had 11 saves for Arthur Christian.
