Saturday OHSAA basketball scores: Hayden Nigro sets record; Louisville, GlenOak, Minerva win

BOYS BASKETBALL SECTIONAL FINALS HIGHLIGHTS

  • LOUISVILLE 86, FIRESTONE 38 Hayden Nigro scored 27 points and became the all-time career scoring leader for the Leopards in Division I, Northeast 2 at Louisville. Nigro scored his 1,410th career point on a free throw after being fouled on a dunk. The previous record for the Leopards was 1,409 points set last season by Will Aljancic. No. 4 seed Louisville (22-2) advances to face No. 26 Medina in a district semifinal on Wednesday at Alliance High School.

  • GLENOAK 63, NORDONIA 52 Reese Zerger had 30 points to power the host Golden Eagles past Nordonia in Division I, Northeast 2. Ja’Corey Lipkins added 13 points for No. 9 seed GlenOak (18-6), which faces No. 17 McKinley in a 7 p.m. district semifinal on Thursday at Alliance High School.

  • GREEN 46, KENT ROOSEVELT 37 Jarrett Taylor scored 18 points and Brady Rollyson added 11 as the No. 6 seed Bulldogs won in Division I, Northeast 3 at home. Green (18-5) outscored No. 50 Kent Roosevelt 14-6 in the fourth quarter to pull awayand advance to a 7 p.m. district semifinal Wednesday against No. 14 Mentor at Euclid High School.

  • JACKSON 83, ELLET 53 Kyle Monterrubio totaled a game-high 22 points and four steals as the Polar Bears defeated visiting Ellet in Division I, Northeast 3. Mitch Finefrock added 11 points and Landon Thiel 10 for Jackson (20-4), which has now won 12 consecutive games. The No. 13 Polars will face No. 7 Dover in a 7 p.m. district semifinal on Thursday at Euclid High School.

  • MINERVA 64, CARROLLTON 43 Garrett Gonzalez totaled 33 points, five steals, four assists and four rebounds to lead the host Lions past Carrollton in Division II, East 1. The two EBC rivals had split their regular season matchups. No. 8 seed Minerva (15-9) advances to a district semifinal for the first time since 2009 and will face No. 1 Maysville on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Claymont High School. Lincoln Mallarnee led No. 10 Carrollton (9-15) with 15 points.

  • LAKE 58, BRUSH 54 Chance Casenhiser connected on five 3-pointers and poured in 39 points as the visiting Blue Streaks pulled off the upset in a Division I, Northeast 4 sectional semifinal. Casenhiser's 39 follows the 44 he scored on Mentor in Lake's regular season finale. The senior guard made 15 field goals overall and shot 4-for-5 from the foul line as No. 68 seed Lake (6-17) won for the third time in its last four games. Only two other Lake players scored Wednesday, with Josh Coffield going for 12 points and Drew Gullett adding seven. Casenhiser now is averaging 25.4 points in his 14 games played (he missed the first nine with a foot injury). Kaleb Burge and Aliyy King scored 14 points each to lead No. 25 Brush (13-10). Lake advances to play at No. 40 Akron Garfield in a sectional final on Saturday.

Minerva improves to 14-9, marking the program's most wins since the 2008-09 season. Rowen Hoffee hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points for the Lions, who will host EBC rival and No. 10 seed Carrollton in a sectional final on Saturday.

  • MARLINGTON 59, STRUTHERS 57 Beau Himmelheber totaled 22 points, five assists and three steals as the Dukes pulled out a win on the road in this Division II Northeast 1 sectional semifinal. Cameron Evanich scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter for No. 35 seed Marlington (12-11), which trailed No. 34 Struthers 48-40 with 4:01 left. Himmelheber connected on five 3-pointers, Evanich four. Dylan Heatherington registered a double-double of 11 points and 17 rebounds for the Dukes, who will travel to No. 31 Streetsboro on Friday for a sectional final

  • CANTON SOUTH 65, PARMA PADUA 60 Tavon Castle's game-high 23 points led the host Wildcats to a win in this Division II Northeast 3 sectional semifinal against No. 38 Padua. Will Sadler hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points and Julius Kimbrough added 13 points for No. 21 South (15-8), which travels to No. 16 Poland for a sectional final on Friday.

  • CENTRAL CATHOLIC 78, TUSLAW 33 Gavin Layman and Jonathan Stangl scored 16 points each as the host Crusaders — a defending district champion — won a Division III Northeast 1 sectional semifinal. Luke Vlacovsky added 13 points and Easton Miller 12 for No. 8 seed Central (15-7), which has won seven straight games overall. Robert Nash scored 16 points and Spiros Smith added 14 points for No. 51 Tuslaw, which finishes its season at 0-23. Central will host No. 48 Youngstown Liberty on Friday in a sectional final.

  • MALVERN 76, RIDGEWOOD 43 J'Allen Barrino totaled 23 points and seven assists as the top-seeded Hornets rolled at home in a Division III East sectional semifinal. Barrino was a perfect 11-for-11 from the field as Malvern (23-0) shot 62.7 percent as a team. Dylan Phillips hit three 3-pointers and scored 15 for the Hornets, while Rodney Smith added 12 points. Jackson Cabot led No. 15 Ridgewood with 14 points. Malvern advances to host No. 14 Richmond Edison in a sectional final on Friday.

  • COSHOCTON 47, SANDY VALLEY 38 Colton Conkle scored 16 points as the No. 8 seed Redskins (16-7) came to No. 6 Sandy Valley and won a Division III East sectional semifinal. The Cardinals (16-7) scored a season low in points, shooting 35.7 percent from the floor and 3-for-15 from 3-point range. Nick Petro led Sandy Valley with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dantae Faiello scored 11 points.

  • KEYSTONE 67, MANCHESTER 51 The Panthers lost a Division III Northeast 1 sectional semifinal at home. No details were reported.
