Trent Brown claims he dropped 12 pounds with multiple-week illness

New England Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown hasn’t looked like himself on the football field in recent weeks.

The team has reported that he’s been playing through an illness, but on Wednesday, the veteran offensive lineman revealed the extent of what he’s been dealing with on and off the field.

He’s been fighting through the flu over the last three weeks, and throughout the illness, he has lost at least 12 pounds. So you can imagine the physical toll something like that probably took on him, particularly when he was still on the field trying to help the team compete.

The good news is that he’s feeling much better and nearing 100 percent.

The Patriots obviously need him at his best if Isaiah Wynn is still out for the game. Things are thinning at the tackle position to the point where Conor McDermott, who was taken off the New York Jets’ practice squad, is getting reps.

When it comes to blindside protectors, Brown is the best the Patriots have at this point.
