Transfer news LIVE! Arsenal in Zirkzee bid; Wilson to Chelsea update; Olise to Man Utd latest

Transfer news – LIVE!

A quiet January transfer window is reaching its conclusion and business is expected to pick up. Chelsea, after all, are yet to sign anyone and that is something of a rarity during the Todd Boehly era at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, it may not be the case for long. That’s because despite long-term links with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Callum Wilson is reportedly tempted by the prospect of a move to the Blues - something Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has denied.

A new forward could also be on the agenda at Arsenal too. Bologna’s in-demand striker Joshua Zirkzee is said to be a target and reports claim the Gunners are now ready to launch a bid worth around £34m.

Over at Manchester United, one of the major names linked is Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise. Still, it is now suggested that the Frenchman has not yet decided on his landing spot this summer. Tottenham, meanwhile, continue to be touted as a destination for Conor Gallagher. Follow all the latest news, gossip and rumours below!

Jacob Ramsey transfer verdict

Emery told a press conference: "Jacob Ramsey is a very important player. He grew up in the academy and his progression is getting better.

"His level is increasing a lot and I want to keep him here with us. Of course, there are movements (speculation) around him.

"Maybe there are teams involved in the possibility to sign him because he has a big, big potential at Villa and in England. I want to keep him here, 100 per cent."

Villa have also been reported to have had a third bid for 21-year-old Middlesbrough striker Morgan Rogers rejected and Emery said: "The club is working hard so some players can leave, then if we can we can add potentially."

A day later, Tuchel spoke about his ambition to work in Spain one day at a fan event, prompting claims he was setting out his stall for the post soon to be vacated by Xavi, much to the annoyance of his current employers.

In a statement issued via Bayern's official website on Monday, chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting director Christoph Freund said: "Our head coach Thomas Tuchel was asked by supporters on Sunday as part of a fan club visit about his coaching career and his previous experiences abroad at Paris St Germain and Chelsea, and naturally provided information about this during the discussion.

"He also answered general questions from fans about Spain as a footballing country. He never spoke about Xavi Hernandez and his successor, as was falsely claimed afterwards.

"We will no longer accept such non-factual statements directed against our coach, which always come from the same source."

The 24-year-old joins to replace an injured Sam Kerr and boost Emma Hayes’s squad in her final season before she leaves to manage the United States.

Chelsea are expected to spend over £400,000 when performance-related bonuses are considered, surpassing the sum paid by Barcelona to sign England international Keira Walsh from Manchester City in 2022.

Ramirez, who has 30 senior international caps for Colombia, said: "I am very honoured to be a part of Chelsea. To be part of such a huge club is a dream come true and one I’ve had since I was a little girl".

Xabi Alonso responds to Liverpool job links

Friday 26 January 2024 13:47 , George Flood

The football world is of course still in shock following Friday morning's news that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

The early frontrunner in the race to succeed the German is Xabi Alonso, the former long-serving Liverpool midfielder who is currently doing terrific work with Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Alonso was inevitably quizzed about a potential high-profile summer return to Anfield during a press conference held on Friday afternoon ahead of Leverkusen's clash with Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

"I was surprised by Jurgen's news," he told reporters. "I have huge respect for Jurgen and Liverpool.

"At the moment I am really happy here and enjoying my work. Each day and game is a challenge. We are in an intense and beautiful journey here at Leverkusen."

Alonso added: "Speculation is normal, but I have great respect and admiration for what Jurgen has done at Liverpool in the last nine years, and how he's done it.

"He has a connection with the fans, he's done a great job, but my focus is here at Bayer Leverkusen.

"I have great motivation to do a good job here, I'm very happy with the team, with the club, with everything, so that's my focus.

"My focus isn't on May, it's on tomorrow ahead of our game against Gladbach and helping my players to be ready. But what I will say is it was surprising what happened at Liverpool with Jurgen leaving."

Antonio Nusa to Tottenham transfer update

Friday 26 January 2024 13:02 , George Flood

Club Brugge will seal a deal for Antonio Nusa to leave the club by the summer, amid talks with Tottenham.

That is according to manager Ronny Deila, who has stated his hope that he will keep the 18-year-old forward until the end of the season.

Spurs remain in talks with the Belgian team, as reported by Standard Sport, with a breakthrough still to be found over Nusa's transfer fee.

A deal worth around £26million is in the offing but reports suggest Brugge want to secure a fee of at least £31m, to match what AC Milan paid them for Charles De Ketelaere in 2022.

Chelsea are just one of the handful of rival clubs interested in landing Nusa.

Eddie Howe: Kieran Trippier to Bayern Munich talk 'finished'

Friday 26 January 2024 10:28 , George Flood

While Callum Wilson could still leave Newcastle this month, it seems that Kieran Trippier is staying put after that prolonged pursuit by Bayern Munich.

"A few things to say on Kieran's situation," Eddie Howe said. "We hope he will stay and we're very confident he will be part of our long-term future.

"But I have to make it clear he has never asked to leave or even questioned his future here. We've had conversations in the last week and it's always been about Newcastle.

"It's important I make that clear. His commitment to Newcastle shouldn't be questioned.

"I don't think it has been a difficult week [for Trippier]. It's a huge compliment that a club like Bayern are interested.

"I want to keep our best players, I want to keep every player in our squad that is very thin on the ground now.

"His situation [with Bayern] is finished as far as everyone is concerned.

"I've been in football long enough to never say never because I don't want to look stupid but Kieran is fully committed."

Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd offered new Callum Wilson hope

Friday 26 January 2024 10:25 , George Flood

Eddie Howe has given a raft of transfer updates during a press conference held this morning in advance of Newcastle's FA Cup fourth round trip to Fulham tomorrow night.

First up, here's what the Magpies boss had to say on those latest links regarding Callum Wilson.

"It’s been a strange one. A lot of speculation and a lot of it unfounded," he said.

"From our side, he’s a huge part of what we do. We’re desperate to get our two strikers fit again.

"He’s nearing a return from injury and looks good. He’s getting there.

"There’s no part of me that wants to lose him."

However, Howe also added: "In every conversation, he’s 100 per cent committed. No part of him is looking elsewhere.

"He’s got big ambitions and we want to keep him here. But some things are out of our control.

"The club is acting with the long-term interests of the club and they have to. Let’s see what happens."

Why Kalvin Phillips signing is a major coup for West Ham

Friday 26 January 2024 09:47 , George Flood

Among the raft of wholesome YouTube content produced by England in the Gareth Southgate era, a rather joyous clip of Declan Rice presenting Kalvin Phillips with the national team’s Player of the Year award sticks in the mind, writes Malik Ouzia.

“40,000 votes?” Phillips repeats, slightly stunned, as Rice surprises him with a BT-sponsored gold brick, recognition from England fans for a superb Euro 2020 campaign.

Had the proud Scotsman in David Moyes not prevented him from engaging in any such poll, it would surely have been 40,001.

Moyes had the Rice-Phillips partnership in mind when he made a club-record £50million bid to sign the latter from Leeds in January 2022, though his admiration by then was long-lived, the midfielder already on his radar by the time he returned for a second stint as West Ham boss late in 2019.

It has taken more than four years, a complete midfield revamp, the £105m sale of Rice and, for Phillips, a marked career downturn, but at last, Moyes has his man.

Friday 26 January 2024 09:04 , George Flood

Kalvin Phillips has joined West Ham on loan until the end of the season, bringing an end to the midfielder’s Manchester City nightmare, writes Malik Ouzia.

The agreement will see the Hammers cover Phillips’s wages, believed to be around £140,000-per-week, for the remainder of the campaign.

It was initially expected that an option-to-buy in the summer would be included in the deal but that has been shelved after the clubs failed to agree terms, though a permanent transfer at the end of the loan has not been ruled out.

Chelsea are among the clubs to be mostly heavily linked with Benzema, along with top-flight rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.

“The clubs make a lot of effort to bring the great players there. They are improving a lot and it could become the best.”

Al-Ittihad reportedly saw a £20m bid for the defender rejected earlier this month and the Spurs boss wants to keep him around.

“No one has asked me about Emerson, but he's been hugely important to us,” he stated this afternoon.

“Without Emerson and Ben [Davies] during this period, we would have really, really struggled. Not just playing at centre-back, but also filling in at right-back at times, left-back at times.

“He is a great guy to have in the group, he trains hard every day and is a quality player. He is in the Brazil national team so Emerson is an important part of what we're doing."

"I am happy with the squad, I am so happy with the players we have.

"Of course if something happens – because you know very well that the last week is the most action week – and we need to be ready if something happens to the squad."
