Cam Appenzeller, Chatham Glenwood, baseball
The junior pitcher racked up 11 strikeouts in six innings and the Titans recorded a 4-0 Central State Eight Conference win over Sacred Heart-Griffin on Wednesday. Appenzeller gave up just two hits with no walks and led the offense with three hits and a run.
Carter Brooks, Havana, baseball
The sophomore leadoff hitter went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs in a 6-5 win over Concord Triopia on Monday. He also delivered the win on the mound in five innings. He gave up three unearned runs on one hit and four walks with three strikeouts.
Drake Gasperson, Litchfield, baseball
The senior threw a no-hitter and dialed up 13 strikeouts with just three walks in a 9-0 complete-game victory over Bunker Hill on Wednesday. He also had a hit with two RBIs and a run.
Maggie Fleischli, Sacred Heart-Griffin, girls track and field
The senior boasted wins in the high jump (4-11) and 800 (2:26.93) to lift the Cyclones to their first ever outright City title on Tuesday. She also won the 400 in 1:00.50 at the Central State Eight Conference meet on Thursday.
Maxx Grieme, Taylorville, baseball
The sophomore delivered the go-ahead 2-RBI double in the eighth inning to notch an 8-7 nonconference win over Williamsville on Wednesday. The Tornadoes scored three runs in the seventh to force extras.
Ian Keller, Nokomis, baseball
The junior delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning and earned the win on the mound in the final two frames in a 5-3 nonconference victory over Pana on Wednesday. He gave up one unearned run on two hits and one walk with three strikeouts. NHS scored all five runs in the seventh.
Katelyn Lehnen, Chatham Glenwood, girls track and field
The junior set new benchmarks in the 100- and 200-meter dash and Chatham Glenwood captured the Central State Eight Conference title at Memorial Stadium on Thursday. Lehnen dominated the 200-meter dash with a personal-best 24.04 seconds after surging to first place in the 100 in 11.77, both new CS8 records.
McKenna Norris, Sacred Heart-Griffin, softball
The freshman hit the go-ahead two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift the Cyclones to a 4-3 nonconference win over Carlinville on Wednesday. Norris also doubled and finished 3-for-3 at the plate.
Grace Sabatka, Pleasant Plains, girls soccer
The sophomore poured in two goals in a 4-0 Sangamo Conference win over Athens on Monday to clinch the outright league title and hand Greg Bryan his 750th career win as a boys and girls soccer coach at Plains.
Chase Turner, Southeast, boys track and field
The junior won the 100-meter dash in 11.38 seconds and dominated the 200 in 22.62 seconds at the City boys track and field meet on Tuesday.
