Tottenham edge out Crystal Palace as Kane breaks another Rooney mark
Harry Kane scored his 26th goal of the season, and the 209th Premier League goal of his career to pass Wayne Rooney for second all-time, as Tottenham edged out Crystal Palace 1-0 in north London on Saturday.

The victory moves Tottenham (59 points) back above Brighton for 6th place in the PL table, though the Seagulls now have three games in hand on interim boss Ryan Mason’s side. Crystal Palace (40 points), meanwhile, slip from 11th to 12th due to Chelsea’s victory over Bournemouth.
Kane’s history-making moment came in first-half stoppage time, and he played a massive part in its creation. Ben Davies found Kane in a bit of space between Crystal Palace’s lines, as Kane received the ball, popped it into the air and swiveled 180 degrees to volley a 40-yard through ball to the right flank for Pedro Porro to run onto. Porro then lofted a cross to the back post, just as Kane arrived to head it down for no. 209. Kane now trails only Alan Shearer (260) in the PL record book.

Tottenham looked set to go 2-0 up in the 76th minute when Cristian Romero found Son Heung-min with a stellar ball over the top, which the South Korean international brought down and nearly rounded Sam Johnstone in one fell swoop. Johnstone didn’t go all the way to ground, though, and got just enough of a hand to the ball as Son tried to slot it home.

Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise have been excellent in recent weeks and whoever is the new long-term boss at Palace has a very talented squad to work with.
