Tottenham injury update: Richarlison, Pedro Porro, Pape Sarr latest news and return dates

Tottenham head into a crucial clash nursing three injuries as the squad prepares to face Aston Villa in a huge game in the race for Champions League qualification.

A come-from-behind win over Crystal Palace was without Richarlison and Pedro Porro, while Pape Sarr is struggling with a back complaint but still managed to come off the bench.

All three should be back fit again soon, though there remains confusion over just how long Richarlison could be sidelined amid suggestions he could be in the squad at Villa Park. Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon and Fraser Forster are longer-term absentees

Here is your latest update on the Tottenham injury news and return dates...

Richarlison

Richarlison has suffered a knee injury and missed the win over Crystal Palace, but the length of his spell on the sidelines remains up for debate.

Postecoglou told the club's media on Friday that the striker faces "two to three weeks" out, and then very soon after told reporters it would be "three to four weeks", making the general consensus around three weeks and a return after the March international break.

Postecoglou added: "Luckily we’ve got the international break in between so hopefully it only means he’ll miss a few games this side of it and be ready for after."

Richarlison, though, has been named in the Brazil squad, suggesting the national team expect him to play some part against England on March 23 or, more likely, Spain three days later.

Brazil boss Dorival Junior said on Friday: "The Richarlison case, this morning, Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar was contacted as soon as the news broke. They are optimistic, they discussed the situation. He will probably miss the next match of his team, but he will be fit shortly after. It's not a situation that is a problem."

Richarlison was talking to Brazilian reporters after Saturday's win over Palace and journalist Joao Castelo-Branco suggested after a conversation that the striker could even be in the squad to face Aston Villa this coming weekend.

"He is already returning to training and says he even has a chance to return in the next round," wrote Brazilian journalist wrote on social media after the striker spoke to ESPN Brazil on Saturday.

Pedro Porro

Pedro Porro remains sidelined with a muscle strain picked up in training. Postecoglou said three weeks ago that the defender is expected to be sidelined for around a fortnight or so, and subsequently missed the loss to Wolves and win over Crystal Palace.

Speaking to reporters before the derby victory, Postecolgou said of Porro: “Pedro is probably another week away."

The influential right-back should be fit for the trip to Villa Park on Sunday.

Potential return date: Saturday, March 9 vs Aston Villa

Pape Sarr

Pape Sarr has been playing through the pain for Tottenham since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, which has been restricting his movement.

The youngster was on the bench for Saturday's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, coming on for the final eight minutes to see out the derby victory but looked in some discomfort.

"He's had a bit of a back issue since he got back from sort of the Africa Cup of Nations. He's been dealing with it and it's getting better but it's not sort of totally free, so it's something we're working on with him," Postecoglou said.

"It doesn't stop him training, he's still been training, but it does restrict him, it's something we're constantly working on but from what I understand he'll be fine. Like I said he hasn't missed training so it's just something we're working on with him."

Manor Solomon

Manor Solomon had hoped to be back with the first-team squad by now, but is taking far longer than expected to recover from a meniscus injury to his right knee.

Solomon had surgery following the injury in October but suffered a setback in February so again went under the knife, and Ange Postecoglou last week admitted the winger faces a "fair bit" of time on the sidelines.

"Manor is sort of progressing but is still not anywhere near rejoining the group. He still has a bit of a way to go," the manager said on March 1.

"Again, it is another frustrating one for him. He is working really hard, keen to get back and we were hoping for an early return date, but it's been little things along the way that have set him back. Fair to say, he is still a fair bit away from the group."

Potential return date: Unknown

Ryan Sessegnon

Ryan Sessegnon has played just seven minutes of competitive football this season due to an injury to his left hamstring and is now expected to miss the remainder of the season after injuring his right hamstring.

The left-back will require surgery and, upon confirming the news, spoke of his devastation at the setback. He wrote on Instagram: "I've been down this road before. I'll pick myself up, stay head strong and begin my recovery in the best way possible.

"Having been through an operation and the recovery on my other hamstring last year, and knowing how strong that hamstring is now, I know this is the best solution to put an end to the reoccurring issues."

Potential return date: Summer 2024

Fraser Forster

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster is facing a lengthy spell out with a fracture in his foot.

The 35-year-old has made just one appearance this season, in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham, and he is now unlikely to return to the squad until the final weeks end of the season.

Postecoglou has suggested the injury, picked up in training, will keep Forster on the sidelines for “about two months”.

Potential return date: Late April 2024
