Top Somerset County golf, tennis, soccer, volleyball, XC performers for Sept. 5-7

Athlete of the Week

Berlin Brothersvalley freshman soccer player Mikaela Glessner was voted Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Meyersdale senior football player Tristin Ohler earned Football Athlete of the Week, and North Star junior golfer and soccer player Parker Scherer was tabbed Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.

Glessner recorded a hat trick in a win over Southern Fulton. Ohler caught two touchdown passes in a 14-6 victory over Glendale. Meanwhile, Scherer shot a 40 to lead the Cougars to a pair of golf wins. He also tallied a goal and two assists in a soccer victory over Southern Fulton.

Thursday

Golf

Conemaugh Township 208, North Star 249: Sam Sharbaugh fired a 37 to earn medalist honors for Conemaugh Township in a triumph over North Star.

Ben Steinbeck and Hayden Miller each shot a 41 for Conemaugh Township.

Cooper Griffith led North Star with a 47.

Boys soccer

Conemaugh Township 5, West Shamokin 1: Dylan Giffin delivered four goals and Rocco Hagan added one for Conemaugh Township in a commanding win.

Windber 4, North Star 1: Derek Prince tallied two goals for the Ramblers in a victory over the Cougars.

Cayden Thompson and Damian Miller each scored a goal for Windber. Bailan Rugg contributed two assists.

Parker Scherer scored for North Star.

Somerset 4, Bellefonte 3: Logan Seslow, Tanner Wassilchalk, Isaiah Armstrong and Alex Smith each scored a goal for the Golden Eagles in a narrow win.

Girls soccer

Conemaugh Township 5, Rockwood 2: Ashlyn Fetterman netted two goals to lead Conemaugh Township to a victory.

Izzy Slezak, Briar Berkey and Addie Miller provided goals for Conemaugh Township.

Mollie Wheatley and Addie Barkman scored for Rockwood.

Bellefonte 4, Somerset 0: The Golden Eagles were blanked at home.

Windber 4, North Star 0: Mariah Andrews tallied two goals to propel the Ramblers past the Cougars.

Riley Brubaker had a goal and two assists for Windber. Kaylie Gaye added a goal and Rylee Baer pitched the shutout.

Northern Bedford 4, Berlin Brothersvalley 2: Mikaela Glessner and Keira Gair each tallied a goal, and Katie Lisbon added an assist for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Black Panthers.

Tennis

Bishop Guilfoyle 3, Windber 2: The Ramblers were edged by the Marauders.

Isabella Harris won by forfeit in singles and the team of Emma Birkhimer and Emma Kelly received a forfeit in doubles for Windber.

Volleyball

Berlin Brothersvalley 3, North Star 0: Lexi Fairman dished out 15 assists and Lynndee Ickes provided 14 kills to lift the Mountaineers over the Cougars 25-16, 27-25, 25-18.

Sydney Walker added six kills for Berlin.

Brooke Cannin led North Star with seven kills. Dannyn Ashbrook and Kora Warta each had six kills.

Meyersdale 3, Curwensville 0: Sarah Hainsworth produced eight kills and five aces for the Red Raiders in a 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 victory over the Golden Tide.

Grace Hersch had six kills for Meyersdale. Izabella Donaldson and Isabella Sleasman combined for 19 assists.

Somerset 3, Bishop McCort 1: Abby Ledney recorded 10 kills, nine digs and six aces for the Golden Eagles in a 25-21, 25-16, 22-25, 26-24 victory over the Crimson Crushers.

Eve Housley delivered 17 kills and 11 digs while Olivia Svonavec tallied 16 kills and 11 digs for Somerset. Emily Rush dished out 37 assists, and Savannah Landis added 15 digs.

Turkeyfoot 3, Lighthouse Christian Academy 1: Eirean Walker had three aces for the Rams in a 16-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-12 victory.

Shade 3, Salisbury-Elk Lick 0: Kori Boozer recorded 28 digs for the Panthers in a 25-14, 25-23, 25-21 win over the Elks.

Madalyn Rapsky contributed 21 assists for Shade. Deborah Bozovich tallied 17 kills and Jaedyn Krupper added 15 digs.

Wednesday

Cross country

Somerset boys win 2: Somerset defeated Richland 25-33 and Bishop McCort 19-42.

Somerset's Jared Walker finished first (20:40) and Caleb Stanton took fourth (22:02).

The Somerset girls fell to Richland 21-34.

Emily Fisher finished second (21:02) and Bethann Walker grabbed fifth (27:17).

Golf

Conemaugh Township 221, Portage 234: Sam Sharbaugh's medalist round of 37 at Immergrun Golf Club led Conemaugh Township to a victory.

Hayden Miller shot a 43 for Conemaugh Township.

Volleyball

Shade 3, McConnellsburg 1: Kennedy Landis delivered nine kills and seven blocks for the Panthers in a 21-25, 25-23, 25-10, 25-10 triumph.

Kori Boozer tallied 37 digs and Jaedyn Krupper added 22 for Shade. Madalyn Rapsky dished out 30 assists and Deborah Bozovich contributed 13 kills.

Golf

Bishop McCort tops field: The Crimson Crushers shot a team score of 335 to best seven other schools. Somerset finished last with a 410. Andrew Thompson led the Golden Eagles with a 94.

Rockwood 176, Conemaugh Valley 195: Aaron Show shot a 39 to earn medalist honors to guide the Rockets in a triumph.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 251, Ferndale 329: Alec Thiele fired a 38 to earn medalist honors for the Vikings in a victory.

Boys soccer

Conemaugh Township 15, Northern Cambria 1: Rocco Hagan and Jackson Sotosky each netted four goals in a scoring barrage for Conemaugh Township.

Dylan Giffin chipped in two goals and Max Malicki contributed three assists.

North Star 4, Berlin Brothersvalley 3: Ethan Ash tallied two goals for the Cougars in a narrow triumph over the Mountaineers.

Parker Scherer had a goal and an assist while Reese Shaulis added a goal for North Star.

Conner Montgomery delivered three goals for Berlin.

Everett 5, Windber 0: The Ramblers were blanked by the Warriors.

Somerset 3, Penns Valley 2 (OT): Logan Seslow, Ben Witt and Kahne Foltz netted goals for the Golden Eagles in an overtime victory.

Girls soccer

Berlin Brothersvalley 4, North Star 0: Mercy Sechler provided a goal and an assist for the Mountaineers in a victory over the Cougars.

Mikaela Glessner, Maddy Richardson and Avery Ogburn each added a goal. Marcy Dupre made eight saves.

Windber 4, Southern Fulton 0: Riley Brubaker netted two goals and Mariah Andrews chipped in two assists for the Ramblers in a triumph.

Nici Costlow and Aaliyah James each added a goal for Windber. Rylee Baer recorded the win in goal.

Penns Valley 3, Somerset 2: Lily Witt netted two goals for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Rams.

Sarah Boden and Kylee Chabol each had an assist for Somerset.

Volleyball

Conemaugh Township 3, River Valley 0: Madee Roman contributed seven kills and four aces for Conemaugh Township in a 25-19, 25-12, 25-5 win.

Alison Matera had 19 assists for Conemaugh Township. Ava Byer added five kills, five digs and two blocks while Laikyn Reynolds chipped in six digs.

Meyersdale 3, Southern Fulton 2: Sarah Hainsworth hammered down 11 kills to lead the Red Raiders to a 5-set victory 25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 25-13, 15-4.

Isabella Sleasman produced 11 assists and five kills while Izabella Donaldson added 10 assists and five kills for Meyersdale.

Somerset 3, Greater Johnstown 0: Olivia Svonavec recorded 15 kills for the Golden Eagles in a 25-9, 25-21, 25-14 win.

Abby Ledney contributed six kills, nine digs and four aces for Somerset. Emily Rush dished out 28 assists, and Eve Housley added four aces.

Salisbury-Elk Lick 3, Turkeyfoot 0: The Elks took down the Rams 25-12, 25-15, 25-12.

Northern Bedford 3, Windber 0: The Black Panthers topped the Ramblers 25-20 25-14, 25-15.

Maggie Manippo had six service points and four kills while Molly Birkhimer added 13 assists for Windber.

Berlin Brothersvalley 3, Everett 1: The Mountaineers earned a 24-26, 25-18, 25-19, 25-15 victory over the Warriors.
