Top Somerset County basketball, rifle, swimming and wrestling performers for Dec. 11-16

Athlete of the Week

Berlin Brothersvalley senior basketball player Regan Lauer was selected Daily American Somerset County Female Athlete of the Week while Somerset senior swimmer Simon McGuire was tabbed Male Athlete of the Week for their efforts Dec. 4-9.

In two wins, Lauer combined for 43 points, including a game-high 25 against North Star.

Meanwhile, McGuire won the 50 and 100 free and was a member of two victorious relay teams for the Golden Eagles in a win over Homer-Center.

Somerset junior Rowan Holmes won the 215-pound title at the Panther Classic at Mount Aloysius College.

Boys basketball

Conemaugh Township 57, Northern Cambria 51: Jon Updyke tallied a team-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds for Conemaugh Township in a victory over Northern Cambria.

Ethan Matera contributed 14 points and Brennan Lohr added 12 for Conemaugh Township.

Blacklick Valley 75, Turkeyfoot Valley 73: Bryce Nicholson poured in a game-high 36 points for the Rams in a narrow setback to the Vikings.

Daniel Younkin and Ely Walker each had 11 points for Turkeyfoot.

Girls basketball

Windber 59, Rockwood 30: Mariah Andrews provided 18 points and 18 rebounds for the Ramblers in a triumph over the Rockets.

Kaylie Gaye added 14 points, while Autumn Walz tallied 10 for Windber.

Mollie Wheatley scored 19 points and Izzy Haer grabbed 10 rebounds for Rockwood.

North Star 47, Shade 42: Abby Barnick dropped 22 points to lead the Cougars over the Panthers.

Kylee Cramer and Isabella Scott combined for 16 points for North Star.

Hayden Oaks scored 21 points, while Kennedy Landis contributed 18 for Shade.

Richland 66, Somerset 52: Eve Housley delivered 30 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Rams.

Reagan Holmes had 14 points and 16 rebounds for Somerset.

Berlin Brothersvalley 69, Meyersdale 27: Coral Prosser netted 26 points as the Mountaineers routed the Red Raiders.

Ashley Brant scored 11 points and Sydney Walker added 10 for Berlin.

Jessica Daughton paced Meyersdale with eight points.

Rifle

Conemaugh Township 1,286, Portage 1,281: Noah Lehman fired a 278 to lead Conemaugh Township to a narrow win over Portage.

Brooke Szala shot a personal best 263 for Conemaugh Township.

Chestnut Ridge 1,289, Berlin Brothersvalley 1,235: Sami Hayman shot a 259 for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Lions.

Jacob Pelar (250) and Peyton Tatano (237) each shot a personal best for Berlin.

Boys basketball

Berlin Brothersvalley 100, Meyersdale 30: Pace Prosser netted 19 points for the Mountaineers in a clobbering of the Red Raiders.

Craig Jarvis scored 19 points, while Mac Foor and Levi Leonard each tallied 17.

Malachi Carr scored 11 points for Meyersdale.

Richland 57, Somerset 47: The Golden Eagles fell to the Rams on the road.

Windber 71, Rockwood 19: Evan Brady provided 16 points and Grady Klosky added 15 for the Ramblers in a romp of the Rockets.

Riley Fazenbaker scored seven points for Rockwood.

Girls basketball

Conemaugh Township 44, Northern Cambria 12: Jenna Brenneman recorded 17 points and 15 rebounds to propel Conemaugh Township over Northern Cambria.

Ava Byer produced 15 points and eight boards, while Katie Wiley tallied seven points and seven steals.

Windber 57, Ligonier Valley 43: Mariah Andrews contributed 16 points and Angel James delivered 14 for the Ramblers in a non-conference triumph.

Kaylie Gaye added 13 points for Windber.

Rifle

Meyersdale 1,291, Rockwood 915: Emilee Stewart fired a 263 to lead the Red Raiders over the Rockets.

Kyley Emerick (258) and Tiani Christner (257) each shot a personal best for Meyersdale.

Dustin Dran (272) and Hannah Galway (258) each shot a personal best for Rockwood.

North Star 1,267, Salisbury-Elk Lick 752: Cory Snoeberger (264), Aidan Barnick (259) and Gracie Eschleman (personal best 257) led the Cougars in a triumph over the Elks.

Aiden Brant shot a 228 for Salisbury.

Boys basketball

Conemaugh Township 72, River Valley 44: Jon Updyke recorded 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists as Conemaugh Township downed River Valley.

Colin Dinyar scored a game-high 23 points for Conemaugh Township. Ethan Matera tallied 13 points and Stephen Stango added 11.

Indiana 61, Windber 43: Evan Brady netted 12 points for the Ramblers in a non-conference setback.

Braeden Pruess contributed 10 points for Windber.

Greensburg Central Catholic 72, Berlin Brothersvalley 64: Pace Prosser dropped in 31 points for the Mountaineers in a setback to the Centurions.

Craig Jarvis contributed 21 points for Berlin.

Girls basketball

North Star 44, Claysburg-Kimmel 16: Abby Barnick delivered 25 points to vault the Cougars over the Bulldogs.

Kylee Cramer chipped in 11 points for North Star.

Berlin Brothersvalley 50, Greensburg Central Catholic 47: Coral Prosser racked up 21 points to lead the Mountaineers over the Centurions.

Mercy Sechler added eight points for Berlin.

Forest Hills 59 Somerset 19: The Golden Eagles were upended by the Rangers.

Rifle

Conemaugh Township 1,287, Bishop Carroll 1,231: Noah Lehman shot a 272 to guide Conemaugh Township past Bishop Carroll.

Lydia Boring (263) and Olivia Ryan (261) rounded out the top three for Conemaugh Township.

Everett 1,384, North Star 1,261: Cory Snoeberger shot a personal best 273 for the Cougars in a setback to the Warriors.

Swimming

Somerset girls sweep, boys split: The Somerset girls bested Tyrone 118-41, and Huntingdon 99-70.

Hope Miller took first in the 50 and 100 free and was a member of the victorious 200 and 400 free relay. Lydia Sheeler won the 200 free and was on the winning 200 and 400 free relay. Canada McGee won the 100 fly and was a member of the 200 free relay. Bethann Walker won the 100 backstroke and was on the 200 and 400 free relay. Isabella Basala won the 100 breaststroke and was on the 400 free relay.

The Somerset boys defeated Huntingdon 93-61 but fell to Tyrone 89-74.

Emert Rugg won the 200 IM, 100 fly and was a member of the winning 200 free relay. Wesley Richard won the 400 free and was on the 200 free relay.

Girls basketball

River Valley 57, Conemaugh Township 30: Ava Byer tallied seven points and 15 rebounds, while Jenna Brenneman chipped in seven points and 13 boards for Conemaugh Township in a setback to River Valley.

Turkeyfoot Valley 42, Bishop Walsh 41: Maleigha Younkin recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Rams in a narrow victory.

Shyanne Schur produced 10 points and 12 rebounds for Turkeyfoot.

Windber 59, Meyersdale 19: Kaylie Gaye, Autumn Walz and Mariah Andrews each scored 11 points for the Ramblers in a commanding win over the Red Raiders.

Laurel Daniels led Meyersdale with nine points.

Allegany 55, North Star 32: Abby Barnick poured in 21 points for the Cougars in a non-conference setback.

Rifle

Bishop Carroll 1,215, Berlin Brothersvalley 1,201: Sami Hayman shot a 260 for the Mountaineers in a narrow setback to the Huskies.

Meyersdale 1,277, Portage 1,244: Bryson Hetz fired a 262 to lead the Red Raiders over the Mustangs.

Emilee Stewart and Tiani Christner each shot a 256 for Meyersdale.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 876, Salisbury-Elk Lick 732: Maggie Weaver (242) and Mackenzie Weaver (216) each shot a personal best to guide the Vikings past the Elks.

Aiden Brant shot a 222 for Salisbury.

Wrestling

Somerset 61, Forest Hills 30: Drew Miller, Logan Baker and Rowan Holmes each won by fall for the Golden Eagles in a win over the Rangers.

Sam Sheeler won by a 15-3 major decision, while Zane Hagans picked up a 6-3 decision for Somerset.

Westmont Hilltop 40, Conemaugh Township 30: Landon Romesburg, Dylan Hovanec, Tristen Hawkins and Colten Huffman all picked up falls for Conemaugh Township in a setback to the Hilltoppers.

Nathan Dail won by a 5-3 decision, while Carter Christ was victorious by a 7-2 decision for Conemaugh Township.

Tussey Mountain 46, North Star 30: Garrett Spangler, Braden Livingston and Brycen Galentine picked up falls for the Cougars in a setback to the Titans.

Tanner Barkley and Braeden Preuss each had 13 points for Windber.

Carter Vogt scored 10 points for Meyersdale.

Berlin Brothersvalley 66, North Star 29: Pace Prosser provided 29 points, including four three-pointers, as the Mountaineers upended the Cougars.

Mac Foor tallied 15 points and Craig Jarvis added 12 for Berlin.

Andy Retassie paced North Star with nine points.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 48, Forbes Road 43: Christian Musser delivered 21 points and Braxton Faidley added 14 for the Vikings in a narrow triumph.

Forest Hills 66, Somerset 37: The Golden Eagles dropped an LHAC contest to the Rangers.
