Top Somerset County baseball, softball, tennis, track and field performers for April 22-27

Athlete of the Week

Meyersdale track and field competitor Tristin Ohler was voted Daily American Somerset County Male Athlete of the Week while Meyersdale softball player Jessica Daughton was selected Female Athlete of the Week for their efforts April 14-20.

Ohler won the 100- and 200-meter dash at the 75th West Central Coaches Meet.

Meanwhile, Daughton provided three hits and three RBIs in a win over Blacklick Valley. She also doubled for one of Meyersdale's three hits in a 2-1 win at Forest Hills.

Saturday

Softball

Turkeyfoot takes dh over Paden City: In Game 1, the Rams rolled to a 12-0 victory in five innings.

Jayna Nieves, Maria Villegas, and Jessica Pepe each drove in three runs for Turkeyfoot. Rhylan Rugg allowed two hits.

In Game 2, Nieves, Villegas, Kya King, Makiah Schartiger, Rhylan Rugg and Kiley Mitchell each recorded two RBIs for the Rams in a commanding 16-0 win.

Rugg allowed one hit.

Friday

Baseball

Windber 6, Shanksville-Stonycreek 5: Andrew Scalia doubled, homered, drove in two runs and scored twice to lift the Ramblers over the Vikings.

Dalton Strick doubled and had two RBIs for Windber. Dawson Himes struck out six over six innings.

Grant Boozer tallied three hits, two RBIs and a run scored for Shanksville.

Conemaugh Township 12, Conemaugh Valley 1 (5): Larry Weaver and Zack Petree combined for five hits, including a home run each and three RBIs in Conemaugh Township's clobbering of Conemaugh Valley.

Luke Haight provided two hits and three RBIs while Colin Dinyar added two hits, including a homer. Haight struck out five over three innings.

North Star 15, Ferndale 1 (3): Cayden Turner hit two grand slams to reach 100 career hits, and racked up nine RBIs for the Cougars in a drubbing of the Yellow Jackets.

Connor Yoder hit a home run for North Star. Glendon Griffith allowed an unearned run on two hits and struck out four.

Bellefonte 9, Somerset 1: Zane Hagans recorded a hit and an RBI while Lane Lambert added two hits for the Golden Eagles in a setback.

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 11, Shade 1 (6): Coral Prosser delivered three hits, including a three-run home run, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Mountaineers past the Panthers.

Sydney Walker hit a 2-run homer, while Elena Ritchey added a 2-run double. Ritchey struck out five over four innings and didn't allow a run.

Bellefonte 7, Somerset 2: Emily Rush doubled twice, and Belle Martin homered for the Golden Eagles in a setback.

Brooklynn Thomas struck out 11 for Somerset.

Northern Garrett 14, Turkeyfoot Valley 3: Kya King tallied two hits and Maleigha Younkin drove in two runs for the Rams in a setback.

Tennis

Bishop McCort 4, Windber 3: Cayden Thompson and Aiden Constantino picked up victories in singles, then teamed up for a doubles win in a setback to the Crushers.

Track and field

NBC Invitational: The Somerset girls 4x100 relay team of Rihanna Hillegass, Josie Smith, Abby Urban and Kam Ross set a new Northern Bedford County Invitational record with a time of 50.60.

Eve Housley won the 100 hurdles. Emily Fisher set new school records in the 3200 (2nd, 11:49), and 1600 (3rd, 5:21.68). Ross took second in the 100- and 200-meter dash.

Somerset's Tucker Mostoller finished second in the shot put.

Baseball

Rockwood 5, Windber 4: Hunter Whipkey tallied three hits, including a home run and four RBIs as the Rockets edged the Ramblers.

Max Trimpey had two hits and Carson Brown added an RBI for Rockwood. Whipkey pitched 6⅔, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and four walks to earn the win.

Andrew Scalia provided two RBIs and Mason Horner added two hits for Windber.

Meyersdale 7, Berlin Brothersvalley 6: Ryan Sechler contributed three hits and two RBIs as the Red Raiders edged the Mountaineers.

Landon Ludy tallied two hits and two RBIs for Meyersdale.

Craig Jarvis and Cale Kosic combined for five hits and two RBIs for Berlin.

North Star 6, Glendale 0: Nolan Weible delivered two hits and two RBIs for the Cougars in a shutout of the Vikings.

Connor Yoder produced three hits and an RBI. Vance Kimmel tossed a complete game, allowing three hits and struck out 11.

Conemaugh Township 7, Northern Cambria 3: Larry Weaver doubled, tripled and drove in three runs to propel Conemaugh Township past the Colts.

Zack Petree allowed three runs on six hits, no walks and struck out two. He also had an RBI.

Hancock 10, Turkeyfoot 0 (5): Luke Bowers, Bryce Nicholson, Zack Ryan and Colt Rugg each had a hit for the Rams in a setback.

Softball

Shade 18, Ferndale 2: Jaedyn Krupper, Tara Corradini, Kaylee Jamison, and Patty Kovacs each had two hits for the Panthers in a romp of the Yellow Jackets.

Rockwood 11, Windber 10: Brooke Snyder went 4-for-4, including a double and two home runs to lift the Rockets over the Ramblers.

Miley Pletcher and Jaden Gross each had three hits while Lily Hetz added a pair of hits for Rockwood.

Skylee Miller contributed two hits and Kaylie Gaye homered for Windber.

Penns Valley 6, Somerset 0: Savannah Landis recorded two hits and Emily Rush added a double for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Rams.

Tennis

Somerset 4, Tussey Mountain 1: Cornelius Grau and Josiah Antram picked up singles wins for the Golden Eagles in a triumph over the Titans.

Ben Bowers and Declan Egal as well as the team of Isaac St. Clair and Gavin Wheeler each earned doubles wins.

Baseball

Forbes Road 7, Shanksville-Stonycreek 5: Christian Musser recorded two hits and scored two runs for the Vikings in a setback to the Cardinals.

Somerset 14, Richland 1 (5): Lane Lambert hit a grand slam and Cole Johnson delivered six RBIs as the Golden Eagles throttled the Rams.

Braeden Flower had two hits, including a 2-run home run. He allowed one run on five hits, one walk and struck out three. Kahne Foltz doubled home a pair of runs.

Softball

Windber 12, Shade 9: Summer Campbell went 3-for-4, including a double, triple, three RBIs and two runs scored to propel the Ramblers past the Panthers.

Rylee Baer had three hits, including two doubles and a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored for Windber. Angel James and Layla Gray and Skylee Miller each provided two hits, two RBIs and combined to score four runs.

Patty Kovacs tallied two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for Shade. Kaylee Jamison and Kori Boozer each had two hits.

Rockwood 7, McConnellsburg 5: Sydney Beals and Paelyn Sanner each delivered two hits and two RBIs to propel the Rockets past the Spartans.

Elika Pletcher provided three RBIs for Rockwood.

Allegany 12, Somerset 2: Elly Fletcher provided two hits and Brooklynn Thomas added a double for the Golden Eagles in a non-conference setback.

Track and field

Conemaugh Township sweeps tri-meet: The Conemaugh Township girls bested River Valley 92-56, and Blacklick Valley 126-23.

Meanwhile, the Conemaugh Township boys upended River Valley 105-38, and Blacklick Valley 124-22.

Izzy Slezak (100 dash, long jump, 400 and 1600 relay), Ellie Speigle (400 dash, 400 and 1600 relay), Lydia Hostetter (pole vault, 3200, 3200 relay), and Elle Hunsberger (800, 3200 relay) earned multiple wins for the Conemaugh Township girls.

Dominik Hanik (800, 1600, 1600 and 3200 relay), Dillon Defibaugh (200 dash, 400 dash, 400 and 1600 relay), and Jackson Sotosky (high jump, long jump, triple jump, javelin) captured multiple wins for the Conemaugh Township boys.

Tennis

Somerset 5, Tyrone 0: Conelius Grau, Tanner Wassilchalk and Josiah Antram won in singles for Somerset in a romp of Tyrone.

Declan Egal and Ben Bowers, along with the team of Gavin Wheeler and Owen DiFebo were victorious in doubles.

Baseball

North Star 7, Southern Fulton 1: Cayden Turner recorded three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored for the Cougars in a triumph.

Turner went the distance, allowing three hits, two walks and struck out nine. Connor Yoder provided two hits, including a home run and three RBIs.

Berlin Brothersvalley 7, Forbes Road 3: Parker Black tallied two hits, including a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored to lift the Mountaineers over the Cardinals.

Craig Jarvis allowed three runs on six hits, three walks and struck out 11 in 6⅓ innings.

Somerset 10, Bishop McCort 2: Zane Hagans recorded two hits, including a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored as the Golden Eagles toppled the Crushers.

Lane Lambert added two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Colt Hagans allowed two runs on four hits and three walks over six innings.

Everett 10, Meyersdale 8: Ryan Sechler, Bradin Schrock and Aiden Thomas each delivered two hits and two RBIs for the Red Raiders in a setback to the Warriors.

Sechler allowed three runs, one earned on five hits, three walks and struck out six in five innings.

Blacklick Valley 16 Turkeyfoot Valley 0 (4): Daniel Younkin doubled for the Rams in a loss to the Vikings.

Fannett-Metal 11, Windber 3: Lucas Rummel: went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Ramblers in a setback to the Tigers.

Shanksville-Stonycreek 14, Ferndale 3 (5): Jordan Young and Luke Walker both doubled and drove in three runs apiece for the Vikings in a rout of the Yellow Jackets.

Isaac Jamison struck out seven in the win.

Softball

Berlin Brothersvalley 15, Forbes Road 3 (5): Elsie Barna launched a 2-run and 3-run homer for the Mountaineers in a romp of the Cardinals.

Taylor Hillegass homered for Berlin. Sadie Snyder was the winning pitcher.

Meyersdale 7, Everett 1: Zoe Hetz had a hit, two RBIs and scored a run to guide the Red Raiders past the Warriors.

Marcella Dupre and Izabella Donaldson each tallied three hits and an RBI. Donaldson allowed one unearned run on five hits, two walks and struck out five.

Windber 9, Fannett-Metal 3: Kaylie Gaye went 4-for-4, including two doubles and two runs scored as the Ramblers tamed the Tigers.

Aaliyah James provided three hits, including a triple and two runs scored. Rylee Baer homered, and Skylee Miller added two hits and picked up the win in the circle.

Turkeyfoot Valley 14, Blacklick Valley 13: Kya King delivered three hits, including a 3-run home run and five RBIs as the Rams edged the Vikings.

Maleigha Younkin provided three hits while Jessica Pepe and Kiley Mitchell each had a pair.

Bishop McCort 10, Somerset 8: Riley Wiencek singled, doubled, homered and drove in five runs for the Golden Eagles in a setback to the Crushers.

Ava Baumgardner recorded three hits and Savannah Landis contributed two hits for Somerset. Brooklynn Thomas struck out eight.

Tennis

Somerset 5, Bishop McCort 0: Cornelius Grau, Kai Petrosky and Tanner Wassilchalk won in singles for the Golden Eagles in a triumph over the Crushers.

Declan Egal and Josiah Antram as well as the team of Isaac St. Clair and Ben Bowers won in doubles.

Track and field

Somerset girls, boys pick up pair of wins: The Somerset girls bested Greater Johnstown 135-15, and Central Cambria 113-37, but fell to Bedford 79-71.

The Golden Eagle boys defeated the Trojans 123-26, and Central Cambria 83-67, but fell to the Bisons 88-62.

Josie Smith (pole vault, 400 relay), Kam Ross (100 and 200 dash, 400 relay), and Eve Housley (100 hurdles, triple jump) earned multiple wins for the Somerset girls.

Somerset's Caleb Platt (high jump, javelin), Maverick Swank (triple jump), and Tucker Mostoller (discus) picked up wins.

Baseball

Northern Cambria 3, Conemaugh Township 2: D.J. Bambino recorded two hits while Zack Petree and Colin Dinyar each provided a hit and an RBI for Conemaugh Township in a setback to the Colts.

Larry Weaver allowed two earned runs over six innings and struck out seven in the loss.

Softball

Shade blanks Forbes Road in dh: In Game 1, Kaylee Jamison and Lowen Mincek each tallied two hits and three RBIs for the Panthers in a 15-0, 3-inning rout.

Tara Corradini doubled twice and scored three runs. She allowed one hit.

In Game 2, the Panthers rolled to a 20-0 win in three innings.

Corradini went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Payton Maddy had three hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored. Tori Bowers and Kori Boozer each had two hits.

Jaedyn Krupper allowed one hit in the circle.

Tennis

Somerset sweeps Windber in doubleheader: The Golden Eagles picked up two 5-0 victories over the Ramblers.

Cornelius Grau and Kai Petrosky earned wins in singles. Tanner Wassilchalk received a forfeit. Josiah Antram and Declan Egal as well as the team of Ben Bowers and Isaac St. Clair were victorious in doubles.

In the other match, Wassilchalk and Antram won in singles. Petrosky received a forfeit. Bowers and St. Clair as well as Owen Difebo and Gavin Wheeler won in doubles.
