Top performers this week in Spartanburg area high school athletics

Here are some of the top performers this week at Spartanburg area high schools for April 8-14. This is a growing list of athletes that comes from nominations sent by coaches, posts to social media and MaxPreps.

Baseball

Nathaniel Carpenter, Broome: Carpenter went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double as Broome beat Carolina, 15-0.

Matthew Cody, Blacksburg: Cody struck out 10 in a complete-game victory against Landrum, 3-2, allowing only five hits and one earned run.

Brayden Simpson, Broome: Simpson had two triples and a double in going 3-for-3 against Carolina. He then went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in a 9-5 win against Union County.

Brady Smith, Gaffney: Smith had two hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in a run to lead Gaffney’s offense to a 7-6 win against Union County.

Holden Varner, Broome: Varner struck out seven in three perfect innings against Carolina.

Lacrosse

Drew Buckmeier, Boiling Springs: Buckmeier scored four goals in a 15-5 win over Spartanburg.

Elijah Smith, Boiling Springs: Smith had six goals and three assists in a 17-4 win against Socastee.

Soccer

Leonardo De La Cruz, Chesnee: De La Cruz scored two goals in regulation and added a penalty kick as Chesnee beat Landrum, 2-2 (4-3).

Tre Segarra, Byrnes: Segarra had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to Wade Hampton. Segarra, a freshman striker who was also a standout running back on the football team, has 15 goals and four assists for Region 2-AAAAA leader Byrnes (10-5, 4-1).

Track and field

Jared Chinloy-Mickens, Boiling Springs: Chinloy-Mickens won the 100 meters (10.91) and the 200 meters (23.12) in a five-team home meet.

Nathan Donaldson, Landrum: Donaldson won the 800 meters (2:04.90) and the 1,600 (4:41.32) in a meet at Dorman.

Jamier Gaston, Dorman: Gaston won the long jump (21-03.51) and the triple jump (44-03.50).

Kaleb Nelson, Boiling Springs: Nelson won the discus (108-02.00) and was second in the javelin.

Quinton Means, Dorman: Means won the 400 hurdles (1:01.12) and was second in the 110 hurdles.

Jake Sapp, Boiling Springs: Sapp won the 800 meters (2:14.20) and finished second in the 1,600 meters.

Christian Waring, Dorman: Waring won the discus (135-01.65) and shot (42-11.75).

Girls

Lacrosse

Evers Morris, Spartanburg: Morris had five goals and three assists in an 11-3 win against Boiling Springs.

Sophie Pavlik, Byrnes: Pavlik scored six goals in a 21-3 win against Dorman.

Soccer

Dakota Brown, Dorman: Brown scored the only goal as Dorman beat Spartanburg.

Softball

Autumn Fisher, Chapman: Fisher had two home runs and a triple in a 12-0 win against Wade Hampton. She scored four runs and drove in three.

Olivia Lister, Spartanburg: Lister, a 7th-grader, was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in a win against Spartanburg Christian.

Track and field

Katelyn Grate, Boiling Springs: Grate won the 100 hurdles (15.58), the triple jump (33-05.00), and finished second in the long jump in a five-team home meet.

Rebecca Okebe, Dorman: Okebe won the 100 hurdles (15.18) and the 200 hurdles (1:04.25) in a home meet.

Skyla Phillips, Gaffney: Phillips won the 100 meters (12.15) and the 200 meters (25.58).

Ainsley Steadings, Boiling Springs: Steadings won the 1,600 (6:03.26) and the 3,200 (12:27.00).
