Top performers from South Jersey girls basketball in December

The first month of the girls' basketball season is in the books.

Here's a look back at some of the best performances over December.

Burlington County League

Cadence Anderson, Palmyra. The senior played a big role in the Panthers’ fast 6-0 start in December. She averaged 21.5 points per game and contributed a team-best 37 steals. Palmyra scored over 70 points in each of its first two games and closed out the month with the Pitman Classic title.

Akeelah Lafleur, Westampton Tech. The junior led her team in points (73), rebounds (58) and blocks (18) as Westampton Tech went 4-1 with the Cougar Holiday Classic title.

Ava Sztenderowicz, Cinnaminson. The junior paved the way as the Pirates picked up seven wins in their first eight games. Sztenderowicz led the with an 11.8 scoring average in December.

Madeline Wylie, Bordentown. The Scotties posted a seven-game winning streak during the season’s opening month and Wylie played a pivotal role. The opened the season with a 28-point effort against Doane Academy and finished the month with a team-best with a 13.9 scoring average.

Julia Zimmerman, Holy Cross. The junior guard filled up the stat sheet in December, leading the Lancers in points (81) and steals (13) to go along with 18 rebounds and 17 assists.

Colonial Conference

Maya Braxton-Young, Woodbury. The senior posted double-digit scoring in six of seven games in December for a team-best 15.0 scoring average. She had a 30-point game in a 48-44 victory over Sterling on Dec. 21.

Kiersten Callahan, Haddon Township. The sophomore led the Hawks with 66 points in five games, including 10 triples.

Gab DiOrio, Haddon Heights. The senior boasted an 11.6 scoring average in the first month and also leads the team with 15 three-point baskets.

Emma Speyerer, Audubon. The Green Wave went 6-0, which included a holiday tournament title on their home court. Speyerer played a huge role as the sophomore was a double-digit scorer in all six games for a team-best 12.7 scoring average.

Acadia Walters, Haddonfield. With a 3-point bucket in five of six games, Walters led the Haddons with a 11.5 scoring average.

Olympic Conference

Brielle Alaba, Cherokee. The sophomore led Cherokee with a 14.5 scoring average over the season’s first month. She’s converted 15 of 18 foul shots for the season and had a 29-point game in a win over St. Thomas Aquinas.

Alexa Henry, Lenape. The junior breathed consistency as she delivered double-digit scoring in all of Lenape’s seven games, finishing the month with a 14.0-point average.

Analyse Intenzo, Moorestown. The sophomore has posted solid numbers across the board for the 5-2 Quakers. She leads the team in points (83) and blocks (11) and is second in rebounds (46), assists (18) and steals (15).

Julia Lewis, Cherry Hill West. The junior converted 23 of 29 foul shots and leads the Lions with 70 points, sparking the team to a 5-1 start.

Rachel Thatcher, Paul VI. The sophomore guard leads the Eagles in points (61) and steals (17) and has also contributed solid numbers in rebounds (27) and assists (10), highlighting a strong start by Paul VI with a five-game unbeaten streak.

Tri-County Conference

Jahzara Green, Gloucester Catholic. The sophomore has averaged 16 points per game, powering the Rams to a 6-0 start which included a pair of wins at the Eastern Holiday Showcase.

Jameelyonna Horace, Penns Grove. The senior guard produced 89 points over the first six games as the Red Devils opened with four straight wins.

Breelynn Leary, Highland. The senior eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark in the first month of the season. She averaged 15.4 points per game for the 4-3 Tartans and knocked down 12 long-distance shots.

Alaina LaMonica, Washington Twp. The junior posted a team-best 11.6 scoring average for the unbeaten Minutemaids, which completed the first month with a 6-0 mark including the team title at the West Deptford Holiday Classic.

Miya Villari, Pitman. The senior contributed 73 points and 22 rebounds in five games as the Panthers earned a 5-1 mark in December.

Cape-Atlantic League

Kasey Bretones, Mainland. The senior has knocked down a team-best 82 points, including 31 from the charity stripe, as the Mustangs have galloped to a 6-0 start.

Reese Downey, Absegami. The junior surpassed the 1,000-career point mark in helping lead Absegami to a 7-1 start. Downey produced a 22.1 scoring average, including a 35-point effort in a win over Kingsway on Dec. 27.

Ava Kraybill, Egg Harbor Township. The junior closed out the month with six consecutive double-figure scoring games. She leads the team with 98 points as the Eagles have soared to a 7-0 start.

Kaci Mikulski, Wildwood Catholic. The senior has posted a team-best 95 points for a 15.8 scoring average as the Crusaders rattled off wins in all of their six games during the month.

Savannah Prescott, Our Lady of Mercy. The senior guard has posted a 16.6 scoring average and leads the team in assists (33) and steals (28) as the Villagers are off to one of the program’s best starts at 7-1.
