Top Performers: See who dominated high school baseball in round one of the AHSAA playoffs

We are at the end of the spring sports regular season with softball and soccer preparing for the postseason. First round of the baseball playoffs started Friday afternoon for several River Region teams.

Here’s a list of the Montgomery-area high school top performers from the week's action.

Baseball

AHSAA baseball playoffs

Holtville’s Drey Barrett hit a grand slam in game one of a 2-0 series sweep over Elmore County.

Trinity’s Xavier Boswell finished with three runs scored and four RBIs, hitting a triple and two doubles to the gate in a 2-0 series sweep over Montevallo.

Trinity’s Cooper Bernier finished with four runs scored and two RBIs, Fleming Hall added two triples, five runs scored and five RBIs, Patton Mitchell finished with five runs scored and two RBIs and Ross Sanders led with eight RBIs.

Boys golf

Montgomery Academy golf team finished No. 12 out of 18 teams in the Larry Gather tournament.

-Low man;  William Hall 78-74

-Low round; Mac Freeman 83-73

-Thomas Floyd 80-84

-Joe Drumwright 87-87

-Jackson Williams 99-84

Girls Soccer

Montgomery Catholic’s Eryn Owens finished with five goals and one assist in a 9-0 victory over Dale County. Michael Ann Williams added two goals and one assist.

Saint James' Katie Brightwell scored six goals and had one assist in a 10-0 victory over Alabama Christian. Her fifth goal broke the existing AHSAA career goals record of 232 goals.

"It was truly an awesome evening with celebrating our senior girls along with KB breaking the AHSAA Goal record.  I can't be more proud of this amazing group of girls as they continue their journey heading into the playoffs," said coach Charlie Brightwell, Katie’s father.

Softball

Brantley’s Anna Parker finished with six strikeouts in a 12-0 victory over Red level. Markay Kilcrease had three RBIs and Mary Driggers added two hits with a solo home run and three RBIs. Alex Grimes and savannah Nichols had two hits with two RBIs each.

Prattville Christian’s Alivia Messick gave up two hits and had 10 strikeouts over seven innings in a 5-3 victory over Tallassee. Peyton Thrash finished with two RBIs. Chloe Hollon and Kandice Crosby had one RBI.

Tennis

Montgomery Academy and Auburn High School finished the 7A Section 2 Tennis Tournament as Co Champions with 50 points each. Both teams qualified for the state tournament in Mobile on April 22-23. Jackson Brown won at No. 2 singles while the doubles teams of Ron Sharma and Ford Morano won at No. 2, Anton Yang-Edwin Wu at No. 3. John Alford, Edwin Wu, Ford Morano, Duncan McInnes and the doubles team of John Alford-Jackson Brown finished the tournament as runner-ups.

Trinity Presbyterian School traveled to Mobile to compete in the 6A Section 2 tournament. Teams who participated were Pike Road, Spanish Fort, Robertsdale and Baldwin County.

Samuel Treadwell was No. 1 singles section champion, and James Treadwell was No. 2 singles section champion. Charlie Franklin was No. 5 singles runner-up. Sawyer Speagle was No. 6 singles section champion. Samuel Treadwell and James Treadwell were No. 1 doubles section champions. Charlie Franklin and Sawyer Speagle teamed up to earn runner up at No. 3 doubles.

James Treadwell remains undefeated for the season in singles and doubles (43-0). This is his fifth consecutive undefeated singles regular season. Samuel Treadwell is 39-4 for the season. Samuel and James Treadwell remain undefeated in doubles for the second consecutive regular season with one loss in the last three regular seasons.
