Top performers around Emmet, Charlevoix Counties from April 25-28

Here are the top high school sports performances from Thursday through Monday around Emmet and Charlevoix counties.

There won’t be a set number of players chosen in each sport in a given period, just including performances which stood out and deserve recognition.

Check for another installment of top performers later this week.

BASEBALL 

Drew Olson, Petoskey: The Northmen took a 9-7 loss against Mount Pleasant and a 16-5 loss agains Standish-Sterling Saturday, but Olson was strong in both games. He singled and scored a run vs. the Oilers and then went 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and a steal vs. the Panthers.

Bryce Johnson, Charlevoix: Johnson had the arm and bat working late last week, going three innings with seven strikeouts and a lone hit allowed in an 11-0 win over Harbor Springs. He also went 2 for 2 with a homer, four RBIs and earned a four-inning win with four strikeouts against East Jordan.

Kacey Gray, Boyne City: Gray had his best performance of the season in a 4-0 win over Grayling last week, going six innings with just two hits and no walks allowed. He struck out 16 batters.

Will Paulus, Harbor Light: Harbor Light moved to 8-0 recently with wins of 29-0 and 25-2 over Wolverine. Paulus stood out in both games, going 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, then 2 for 2 with a double, triple and RBI in game two.

Korbyn Russell, East Jordan: Russell set a new career-high with 18 strikeouts in a seven-inning 2-1 win over Traverse City St. Francis. He allowed just two hits and two walks and added a double in the win. He also had an RBI single vs. Inland Lakes and double vs. Manistique in a pair of losses.

Tyler Goeldel, Petoskey: Goeldel has been on a nice little hot streak and showed it over the weekend, despite the pair of losses. He went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs vs. Mount Pleasant and then added a two-run homer against Standish-Sterling.

Sullivan Cadarette, Boyne City: The Ramblers earned wins of 3-2 and 4-0 against Grayling last week, their first two of the season. In the opener, Cadarette stood out with six innings pitched and six strikeouts in the win, then added two RBIs at the plate.

Mason Weidenhamer, Alanson: The Alanson baseball team earned its first victory of the season late last week in an 11-2 final over Boyne Falls. Weidenhamer earned the win over five innings, striking out six with one hit and three walks allowed. He also scored a pair of runs, singled and stole a base.

AJ Speigl, Charlevoix: Speigl had the bat working for a 2 for 3 game with three RBIs against Harbor Springs, then added an RBI and a perfect two innings pitched in game two. He then went 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs against East Jordan.

Jackson Mesner, Harbor Light: In back to back games against Wolverine, Mesner hit homers in each. He brought in two runs in game one, then added a double and three RBIs in game two, to go with the homers.

Camry Rajkovich, Boyne City: Rajkovich had the bat working in both games against Grayling, with a double and an RBI in the opener and RBI single in the game two win.

Owen Waha, Charlevoix: Charlevoix squeezed in five games late last week and Waha was a force all around. He earned a six-inning win against Harbor Springs with eight strikeouts and two RBIs in the 6-0 win. He then added two more RBIs in an 11-0 victory, then went 3 for 4 with a home run and three runs scored in a 15-0 win over East Jordan.

Ryan Peal, Charlevoix: Pearl stood out in nearly every game late last week. He went 3 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs in game two against Harbor Springs, was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and two runs against Manistique and then went 1 for 2 with three runs scored against East Jordan.

Lucas Stone, East Jordan: In a pair of tight games vs. TC St. Francis, Stone had an RBI single in a 2-1 win and then went four innings with only a hit and no walks allowed in a 3-1 win.

Delaney Vollmer had another solid few outings as both a pitcher and hitter for the Boyne City softball team recently, continuing to show she can do it all for the Ramblers.

SOFTBALL 

Kaitlyn Speigl, Charlevoix: Speigl helped the Rayders close the weekend on a solid 10-1 win over Manistique, going four innings with a no-hitter and lone walk allowed, while striking out seven. She also went 2 for 3 with an RBI in the game.

Lizzie Pop, East Jordan: Pop stood out in a collection of weekend games. She went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in a 6-2 win over Manistique, then 2 for 4 with two RBIs in an 11-10 loss to Inland Lakes. She also added an RBI in a 6-5 win over Charlevoix.

Delaney Vollmer, Boyne City: Vollmer helped Boyne to a 7-1 win over Grayling late last week, going six innings with five strikeouts, while adding a 2 for 3 game with four RBIs and a homer. She also pitched 2 2/3 innings in a 7-0 game two loss, allowing just one hit.

Molly Ogden, Harbor Light: Ogden helped Harbor Light pull in a 27-13 win over Boyne Falls with a 5 for 5 game that included two doubles, a homer, six RBIs, 3 innings pitched and three strikeouts.

Anna Kemp, Charlevoix: Between a collection of four games Saturday, Kemp knocked around four doubles and added a pair of RBIs.

Anne Chamberlin, Harbor Light: Chamberlin went 4 of 6 with three doubles, a triple and five RBIs against Boyne Falls late last week.

Avery Kita, Charlevoix: In an 11-10 win over Manistique, Kita went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs. She also added a pair of singles and two more RBIs across three other weekend games.

Ava Kenwabikise, Harbor Light: In a league win over Boyne Falls late last week, Kenwabikise went 5 for 6 with a pair of doubles, triple and an RBI.

Lillian Stone, East Jordan: Stone put together a fine final game of the weekend, an 11-10 loss to Inland Lakes. She went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

SOCCER

Brynn Jonker, Petoskey: The Petoskey junior helped keep the Northmen unbeaten on the season with a late second half goal against Traverse City West on the road, bringing on an eventual 1-1 tie to move Petoskey to 7-0-1 and 4-0-1 in the BNC.

LACROSSE 

Charlie Thomas, Petoskey: Came through with the game-winning goal against Port Huron recently in a 5-4 overtime victory. He scored three goals and had two assists in the win and added three goals and three assists in a 14-8 win over Vicksburg.

Brandon Klingelsmith, Petoskey: Recorded six goals and three assists in a 14-8 win over Vicksburg.

Austin Klingelsmith, Petoskey: Combined for 28 saves in net in two games between Port Huron and Vicksburg recently, both wins for the Northmen.
