Big dunks, quick pins, more: Top Performers among Erie County high school athletes for Jan. 16-21

Erie County's high school athletes posted another week of exciting efforts and quality performances from Jan. 16-21. Here are some of the best:

Boys basketball

Bryce Drayer, Union City: His 20-point effort accounted for nearly half of the Bears' offense when they beat Reynolds 57-51.

Logan Anderson, General McLane: His team-record eight 3-pointers, part of a 32-point performance, were the bulk of the 11 the Lancers recorded during their 71-50 victory vs. West Middlesex.

John Seyboldt, Fairview: His 19 points were a major portion of the Tigers' total when they defeated Erie First Christian 52-47.

Geremia Dell'omo, Girard: He scored 14 points for the host YellowJackets, who beat Seneca 62-47.

Andreas McCullum, Erie High: The Royals defeated Fort LeBoeuf 83-44 due in part to his 25 points.

Justin Pasko, Mercyhurst Prep: He scored 11 points during the Lakers' low-scoring 44-19 victory at North East.

Tyler Grove, McDowell: The Trojans beat the visiting Meadville Bulldogs 63-46 with the aid of his 22 points.

Jack Miller, Northwestern: He scored 19 points for the Wildcats, who won 68-62 vs. Iroquois.

Jake Sambuchino, Cathedral Prep: His team-high 18 points helped the Ramblers defeat Harbor Creek 64-42.

Jacob Johnson, Seneca: He had a team-high 18 points for the Bobcats, who maintained first place in their region with a 58-46 victory against Erie First Christian.

Rylan Smith, Corry: His seven 3-pointers comprised the bulk of the 29 he scored during the Beavers' 59-52 win over Conneaut.

Zion Barksdale, Cathedral Prep: Five dunks were highlights amid his 17 points for the Ramblers when they defeated Meadville 63-47.

Isaac Zietz, General McLane: His 20 points highlighted the Lancers' scorers en route to their 71-41 victory vs. Fort LeBoeuf.

J.J. Ganska, Mercyhurst Prep: He scored 12 points for the Lakers, who dominated Iroquois 71-32.

Hope Garrity, Fairview: Her 20 points surpassed Union City's total when the Tigers beat the Bears 50-14.

Paige Slupski, Iroquois: Her hoop with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter was the difference for the Braves when they beat Girard 22-21.

Olivia Kulyk, Mercyhurst Prep: Her 23 points were more than one-third of the Lakers' total points when they won 61-35 at North East.

Lena Walz, Cathedral Prep: She scored 17 points for the Ramblers when they defeated Harbor Creek 63-14.

Meghan Konkol, Seneca: Her dozen points for the Bobcats helped them beat Northwestern 36-30.

Draya Neavins, Erie High: She recorded 15 points for the Royals, who defeated General McLane 46-35. ... Earlier in the week, she scored 16 points against Corry, which were more than the Beavers' total when Erie High defeated them 55-13.

Mikaela Bennett, McDowell: The Trojans won 63-27 at Fort LeBoeuf with the aid of her 17 points.

Emma Bleil, Seneca: Her 10 points were enough to lead the Bobcats during their low-scoring 43-28 victory vs. the Cochranton Cardinals.

Makayla Presser-Palmer, Northwestern: The Wildcats' 47-41 victory over General McLane included an infrequent double-double in that she had more rebounds (20) than points (19).

Bre Heidt, Fairview: She personally outscored Meadville (12 points) when the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 57-10.

Brooke VanTassel, Union City basketball: Her 14 points helped the Bears beat Girard 53-20.

Wrestling

Nick Fisher, Harbor Creek: The Huskies' 145-pounder only needed 60 seconds to win his match during the team's 54-3 rout of the rival Seneca Bobcats.

Hunter Chew, Harbor Creek: His pin in the 107-pound match represented the last of the Huskies' five straight match victories that determined their 41-28 dual win against Cambridge Springs.

Conner McChesney, Fort LeBoeuf: The 172-pounder's don't-blink pin (19 seconds) helped the Bison beat General McLane 43-21 and claim sole possession of first place in District 10's Region 4 standings.

Steven Willis, Corry: His 37-second pin in the 114 match concluded the Beavers' 57-12 win against Warren.

Boys swimming

Mitchell Myers, Fairview: His victory in the championship heat of the 100-yard freestyle (49.51 seconds) also helped the Tigers claim first place in the team standings for the Iroquois Coaches Association Swimming & Diving Invitational.

North East's Evan Kemp swims the breaststroke leg for his 200-yard individual medley heat during Saturday's Iroquois Coaches Association Swimming & Diving Invitational. Kemp was the eventual gold medalist for that event, as well as the meet's 100 butterfly competition.

Evan Kemp, North East: The star of the Grapepickers was a gold medalist in the 200 individual medley (2:00.25) and the 100 butterfly (53.76) for the Iroquois Coaches Association Swimming & Diving Invitational.

Jacob Carstater, Girard: His time of 1:03.15 was the fastest in the 100 breaststroke championship heat at the Iroquois Coaches Association Swimming & Diving Invitational.

Gavin Berquist, McDowell: He won as an individual (50-yard freestyle) and with a relay (200 medley) during the Trojans' 125-41 victory vs. Meadville.

Matthew Shollenberger, Fairview: He was a triple winner for the Tigers during their 133-7 rout of Iroquois.

Tanner Pike, Union City: The star senior for the Bears won twice during their 96-60 victory vs. the Girard YellowJackets.

Collin Lawry, North East: The Grapepickers defeated the General McLane Lancers 84-53 with significant help from his four dual victories.

Karalynn Burns, Fairview: The Tigers defeated the Iroquois Braves 116-41 in part with her three victories.

Claire Gebhardt, McDowell: First place in the 100-yard freestyle was one of her three victories for the Trojans when they defeated Meadville 111-67.

Grace Wilson, Union City: The junior was a four-time victor for the Bears en route to their 92-74 dual win over Girard.

Josie Dufala, Cathedral Prep: She won as an individual (50-yard freestyle) and with teammates (anchor for the 400 freestyle relay) when the Ramblers defeated Erie High 95-37.

Catrina Miller, General McLane: She was a four-time winner for the Lancers when they won 134-45 vs. North East.

Girls bowling

Taylor Kretz, McDowell: Her 256 game and 685 series were the best in each category during this week's Metro League play at Rolling Meadow Lanes.

Elena Kacprowicz, Cathedral Prep: A 192 game amid her 502 series helped the Ramblers upset McDowell 16½-11½ and tie the Trojans for first place in the Metro League standings.

Britan Marchinetti, Erie High bowling: Her 377 series was the highest for the Royals, who beat Mercyhurst Prep 22½-5½ during Metro League competition.

Hockey

Nico Catalde, McDowell: His goal in the second period turned out to be the game-winner when the Trojans won 3-1 vs. North Catholic at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township.

Liam Waid, Cathedral Prep: His goal and two assists staked the Ramblers to an early lead en route to their 4-3 victory vs. North Allegheny at Erie Bank Sports Park.

Boys indoor track and field

Luke Brown, Cathedral Prep: The George Mason University recruit swept the individual 1,600-meter (4 minutes, 29.48 seconds) and 3,200-meter races (9:58.77) during a Northeast Ohio Indoor Track and Field Coaches meet at Geneva's S.P.I.R.E. Institute.

Girls indoor track and field

Lauren Raimy, Cathedral Prep: She finished first in the 800-meter race (2 minutes, 25.85 seconds) and the 1,600 (5:20:26) during a Northeast Ohio Indoor Track and Field Coaches meet at the S.P.I.R.E. Institute in Geneva.
