Top high school performances: Sheldon, Marist girls soccer still undefeated

Eugene-area high school teams had another action-packed week of top performances.

This week's top performances include Sheldon, Marist and North Eugene girls soccer, Marist boys soccer and Thurston volleyball.

Each week, The Register-Guard will highlight top performances from student-athletes and teams. Coaches can send stats and nominate a player of the week by emailing enoriega@registerguard.com.

Here are this week's top performers.

No. 3-ranked Sheldon girls soccer remains undefeated

The Sheldon girls soccer team (6-0, 4-0 Southwest Conference) secured a 2-1 league win over South Eugene (2-4-2, 2-3 SWC) on Wednesday.

The Irish saw another standout performance from junior goalkeeper Addison Dye-Blondell, who has allowed one goal in the last three matches.

Sheldon will play a league match at Grants Pass (2-3 SWC) at 4 p.m. Monday.

North Eugene girls soccer downs Churchill

The North Eugene girls soccer team (4-2) defeated Churchill (0-6), 8-0 in a nonleague match on Tuesday.

Freshman forward Zari Thomas and senior forward Kendal Priaulx led the Highlanders with two goals each. Freshman midfielder Payton Buschelman had two assists and a goal. Natalie McClure, Kolbi Priaulx and Lily Niemeyer each scored a goal.

North Eugene hosts David Douglas (6-0) in a nonleague match at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Marist boys soccer starts 1-0 in Sky Em League play

The Marist Catholic boys soccer team (4-2-1, 1-0) defeated North Bend (1-5-1, 1-1), 2-0 to open Sky Em League play on Sept. 18.

Spartans' freshman forward James Guerrero scored a goal and senior forward Javi Sandoval-Gongora had a goal and an assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kellen Fitzpatrick recorded the clean sheet for the Spartans.

Marist hosts Junction City/Harrisburg (2-5-1, 0-2 SEL) in a league match at 7 p.m. Monday.

Marist girls soccer picks up pair of wins

The Marist Catholic girls soccer team (7-0, 1-0 Sky Em League) defeated North Bend (4-3, 1-1 SEL) 4-0 on the road on Sept. 18. Marist defeated Thurston (3-3-2), 7-2 in a nonleague game on Thursday.

Cloe Chase led the Spartans with a combined six goals and two assists. Libby McLaughlin had a combined three goals and three assists.

Marist hosts Junction City (3-4-1, 1-1 SEL) in a league match at 5 p.m. Monday.

Thurston volleyball defeats North Eugene

The Thurston volleyball team (10-4, 5-0 Midwestern League) defeated North Eugene (4-11, 1-4 MWL), 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-14) on Tuesday.

Savannah Efseaff led the Highlanders with nine kills. Emily Buller had 16 assists and Julia Cook contributed nine digs and eight kills.

Thurston fell to Cascade (10-3, 2-0 Oregon West Conference) 2-3 and Marshfield (15-2, 2-0 SEL) 0-3 in the Battle of the Bay Marshfield Invitational at Marshfield High School on Saturday.

Other top performances

In Class 3A/2A/1A, the Pleasant Hill girls soccer team (4-3, 4-2 Special District 3) defeated Siuslaw (0-5-1 SD3) 5-1 on Tuesday. Tressa Geyer led Pleasant Hill with two goals. Lydia Whitney, Tessa Hammond and Jordan Pierzina notched a goal each. Pleasant Hill defeated Central Linn (4-3, 4-2 SD3) 2-0 on Friday.

In Class 3A, Creswell volleyball (7-3, 3-2 Mountain Valley Conference) defeated La Pine (6-6, 2-3 MVC), 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-9) on Wednesday. Lizabelle Osborn led the Bulldogs with 14 kills, Kimberlee Kelsey had 18 assists and Piper Hanson had 10 kills.
