Top 5 Kentucky high school football games with Louisville-area teams to watch in Week 4

Here’s a look at the top five Louisville-area games to see in Week 4 of the high school football season. All games are scheduled for Friday.

Lexington Christian (2-1) at Christian Academy (3-0), 7:30 p.m.

It’s a matchup of two of the state’s top senior quarterbacks as Lexington Christian’s Cutter Boley will face Christian Academy’s Cole Hodge. Boley has committed to the University of Kentucky, and Hodge is headed to East Carolina.

Lexington Christian has faced one of the state’s toughest schedules to date, beating Bowling Green and Pikeville and falling to Boyle County. Boley has completed 59 of 98 passes for 908 yards and six touchdowns with four interceptions. Senior running back Brady Hensley, a transfer from Madison Central, has rushed for 746 yards and scored 12 touchdowns (10 rushing, two receiving).

Christian Academy enters off a 49-21 victory at North Hardin on Saturday. Hodge has completed 62 of 86 passes for 863 yards and 15 touchdowns with just one interception. Top receivers are junior Connor Hodge (24 catches, 245 yards, six TDs, East Carolina commit) and senior Justin Ruffin (21 catches, 269 yards, four TDs, Army commit).

Christian Academy won last year’s meeting 49-14.

Bryan Station (1-2) at Ballard (2-1), 7:30 p.m.

Bryan Station started 0-2 with losses to Trinity and Franklin County but bounced back Saturday with a 38-35 victory over Bowling Green. Zachary Gentry’s 40-yard field goal with 6 seconds left won it for the Defenders. Senior J.T. Haskins Jr. is one of the state’s top athletes. He’s the team’s top wide receiver (13 catches, 172 yards, one touchdown) and also is a top defender (12 tackles, one interception).

Ballard bounced back from a 34-3 loss to Male with a 49-22 victory over Pleasure Ridge Park on Friday. Senior Journey Wyche had a 30-yard touchdown run to start the scoring for the Bruins. Wyche has offers from Bucknell, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, Lindenwood, Wofford and Youngstown State.

This will be the teams’ first meeting since 2014, when the Bruins beat the Panthers 29-8 in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Carmel (Indiana) (2-1) at Trinity (1-2), 7:30 p.m.

Carmel enters off a 39-0 victory over Detroit King, getting a pair of touchdown runs from Ozzy Pollard. Senior cornerback Christian Peterson has committed to Indiana. He threw a 16-yard touchdown pass in the victory over King.

Trinity has lost two straight after falling to Indiana power Center Grove 34-7 on Friday. The Shamrocks have struggled on offense, averaging 19 points and 186 total yards per game. Freshman Zane Johnson has taken over at quarterback and completed 30 of 57 passes for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Senior linebacker Brady McEnaney leads the team in tackles (18), tackles for loss (five) and sacks (four).

Trinity won 17-7 at Carmel last season.

Manual (3-0) at Eastern (2-1), 7:30 p.m.

Manual is off to a 3-0 start for the third straight year after posting a 24-8 victory at Cincinnati Taft on Friday. Sophomore Gerian Traynor carried 18 times for 109 yards and a touchdown, and senior Eli Creech completed 11 of 14 passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Junior linebacker Braydon Underwood (24 tackles, one sack) anchors a defense that is allowing just five points per game.

Eastern rallied for a 33-32 victory at Fairdale on Friday. Quarterback Zane Wagner had a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:29 remaining, completing the Eagles’ rally from a 32-20 deficit. Senior wide receiver Joshua Shipley scored three touchdowns.

Manual has won three straight meetings against Eastern. The Eagles’ last victory over the Crimsons came in 2017.

South Oldham (2-1) at North Oldham (2-1), 7:30 p.m.

After opening its season with a 44-15 loss to Cincinnati Anderson, South Oldham has routed Nelson County (40-0) and Spencer County (46-0). Senior quarterback Nick Hamilton rushed for 106 yards and accounted for five touchdowns (three rushing, two passing) in the victory over Spencer County. Senior wide receiver Andrew Farr had five receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

North Oldham will be playing its first home game of the season and debuting the new teal-colored field that recently was installed. After opening it season with victories over Fern Creek and DeSales, North Oldham was blitzed 42-0 at Tates Creek on Friday. Senior quarterback Jace Bullock has passed for 432 yards and six touchdowns.

South Oldham has won eight straight meetings in the rivalry. North Oldham’s last victory came in 2014, winning 28-14.
