    Likely needing a split at East Carolina to stay on the right side of the NCAA regional bubble, the Tulane baseball team was not up to the task this past weekend. The question now is how many wins the Green Wave (25-17, 14-5 American Athletic Conference) will need at home against Central Florida (23-25, 13-11) and at Cincinnati (24-21, 13-11) in its last two series of the regular season to give itself a good shot at an at-large bid if it does not capture the league tournament.     East Carolina Announces Riley Hillbrandt As New Assistant Swimming Coach

    East Carolina University announced today that Riley Hillbrandt will be joining the Pirates’ staff as the assistant women’s swimming coach. This will be the first full-time Division I job for Hillbrandt, who previously coached at Clarion University (Division II) and the College of Wooster (Division III). That makes her part of a relatively small group of coaches who have coached at all three NCAA divisions, especially in that short of a timeframe.

    RALEIGH – After trailing 21-0 on the road, J.D. Lampley said his Richmond Senior football team played with a “different energy” in the second half of last Friday’s playoff loss to Cardinal Gibbons. And although Lampley was too humble to say so himself, the defensive tackle was a driving force in that furious comeback, which fell just short and ended the Raiders’ season in the NCHSAA 4-A quarterfinals.
