Tiverton High School athletes set new school records in track & field meets on Saturday

Newport County boys high school boys and girls track teams participated in a pair of invitational meets on Saturday and came through with excellent results.

Tiverton High senior Josh Wood set a school record in the hammer throw with a toss that left him ranked ninth in the country. Tiverton’s Katie Richardson came two inches shy of throwing the javelin 100 feet but she did set a school record in the event.

Middletown High’s Jason Hayes and Cam Miller each won an individual event title with Hayes capturing the discus crown and Miller winning the long jump. Athletes from Portsmouth and Rogers high school also came through with top-three finishes in solo events.

Amarie Williams, Rogers girls track

Williams had the best finish among her teammates who vied in the Mariner Invitational at Narragansett High School on Saturday. Williams tied for second place in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet,9 inches.

Allie Kaull and Rowan Snyder, Portsmouth girls track

Kaull and Snyder each recorded personal-best efforts and placed third in an event as the Patriots traveled to Narragansett High School on Saturday to compete in the Mariner Invitational.

Kaull topped her previous 1,500-meter run time by seven seconds as she completed the race with a time of 4 minutes, 54.62 seconds. Sophomore Snyder skied over the pole vault bar at 9 feet to top her former best clearance height by six inches.

Katie Richardson, Tiverton girls track

Richardson set a school record in the javelin on Saturday when she competed in the Mariner Invitational at Narragansett High School. Richardson launched the javelin 99 feet, 10 inches to better her former school record throw by 20 inches.

Joshua Wood, Tiverton boys track

The Tiverton senior uncorked a school-record throw in the hammer as he placed fourth in the event at the Brian St. Germain Invitational at West Warwick on Saturday. Wood let loose with a personal-best 196 feet, 5-inch throw that left him in fourth place overall in the state and ninth best in the country in the event.

Cam Miller and Jason Hayes, Middletown boys track

Miller and Hayes each won an event on Saturday as they vied in the Brian St. Germain Invitational at West Warwick. Miller had the winning long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 8 ¼ inches. He also placed third in the high jump as he cleared the bar at 6 feet. Hayes was victorious in the discus with a throw of 166 feet, 6 inches.

Neil Porter and Kaden Thomas, Rogers boys track

Porter placed third in the javelin and Thomas was fourth in the shot put at Saturday’s Brian St. Germain Invitational in West Warwick. Porter tossed the spear 137 feet, 10 inches while Thomas flung the metal orb 44 feet, 11 inches.

4x400 and 4x800 relay teams, Portsmouth boys track

Both the Portsmouth 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams won their event at Saturday’s Brian St. Germain Invitational in West Warwick. Nate DeConto, Landon Rodrigues, Nikolai Loyola, and Aidan Chen teamed to win the 4x400 with a time of 3 minutes, 29.62 seconds. That time is three seconds shy of the school record.

Kevin Sullivan, Chris Vachon, Sean Gray and Wake Zani combined to win the 4x800 with a time of 8:33.25. Gray also placed fifth (9:08.99) in the 3,000, a freshman class record that qualifies him for the freshman 2-mile at New Balance Outdoor Nationals.
